I bought the Woodpeckers 3-sided marking tool with reservations that it might never get used. I find myself reaching for the tool constantly. I have found the smaller of the two marking tools to be the most useful. I found zero error in the three sides using Starrett lineal digital caliper.

It is a very handy tool!

That looked like a good tool when they introduced it but, I had just bought the Veritas saddle gauge.  After reading about your impression of the tool, I wish I had bought the smaller version.

Yeah I second that thought.... I only bought the smaller one and have already used it a lot more than I thought I would. Great little tool.

very useful, marks three.extra mark, but you don't have to figure out which of the two sides you only need

The unit has one moveable spring loaded side. You compress the spring to open the unit wide enough to slide onto the wood like a saddle. You release the spring tension when the unit is exactly positioned. With it positioned, the three sides of the unit are perfectly aligned across side, top, and side of the wood. Mark all three sides at once or transfer a mark from one side of a board to the other side. Darn neat.

I have always used a two-sided saddle square. This new tool eliminates the potential of error when transferring a mark to the third side of a board with a traditional saddle square.
