This was on their weekly email.

Thought I'd throw it out here since many of our US members have adopted (to some extent) metric in their woodworking.

From Woodpeckers email:
"We're thinking about offering metric T-Squares, 12x8 Precision Squares, Woodworking Rules and Story Sticks. Good or bad idea? Would you buy one? Please reply if you care to share your opinion. "
mailroom@woodpeck.com

For any galoots or luddites that aren't aware of Woodpeckers:  http://www.woodpeck.com/

I sent them an e-mail asking for Metric layout tools.

Thanks for the heads up.

Below is an email I sent to Woodpecker back in March of this year about this very thing.

Maybe they are getting the clue!  Or at least looking for other avenues for products.  I love their products, but have been reluctant to buy anything not metric since I started buying Festool and saw the ease of metrics use in woodworking.

And the more people ask about them, the more likely that they will do it.

Forwarding my original email back to them again as a reminder that there is demand.

Leland

Currently, we do not.  We may do some limited runs of that version.  If you
are an eclub member of ours, you will be the first to know.

Woodpecker makes another line, Pinnacle, for Woodcraft, which is identical to the Woodpecker products, but with a different logo, and black in finish instead of red. I bought a pair of Metric Story Sticks from Woodcraft about a year ago. If you compare them to the Woodpecker Story Sticks, you'll see what I mean. I don't remember seeing any other Pinnacle products (Squares, etc.) in metric. I don't know if the original poster was looking for the story sticks, but it does show that Woodpecker has done something in metric, albeit under another trade name.

EDIT: Just to give you another example of the Pinnacle/Woodpecker connection, here is the Pinnacle Precision Square, while here is the Woodpeck Precision Square. I also have this square, in Woodpeck livery, and am very happy with it.

ANOTHER EDIT: Leland, I just re-read your post, I can tell you that the metric story sticks are really, really nice. Hope this info helps you. It's curious that Woodpeck wouldn't have told you about Pinnacle, no? Whatever the reason, they make great products, no matter what the brand name is.

Just to clarify, "Pinnacle" is Woodcraft's own line, and seems to be stuff they simply re-brand (vs. WoodRiver which is of their own making.. so speak).
Many of the Pinnacle items are from Woodpeckers.  But many are from other makers.  Turning tools is another major "Pinnacle" re-branding in Woodcraft.

Good point, but the point still stands that Woodpecker can (and has) made metric products, the metric story stick for Pinnacle being one of them.

Thanks Sean!!!

Now if Woodcraft would pick up the rest of Woodpecker's rulers in metric, it would be great.

I got my latest Woodpeckers Inc. e-mail yesterday, and this was at the bottom of it:

AND THE WINNER IS...
Actually about 50/50 with regards to "want metric tools" or "don't want metric tools". Even more interesting is the creativity of the responses. All I can say is thanks. What a hoot!
We have a hand full of 24" (600mm) T-Squares in stock right now. They aren't available on our site yet however if you'd like one, shoot me an email or call the office (800) 752-0725. They're the same price as the imperial version, $109.99. Thanks for the feedback.

Sure would like a METRIC 1281 square from Woodpecker. I know as soon as i spend the 80 bucks for an imperial one Woodpecker will release a Metric one.

NEW 900mm STORY STICK
When you're doing repetitive work a story stick can be indispensible. You can easily make one from scrap however the accuracy of the marks will be no better than the tape measure used to lay them out. The Woodpeckers Story Stick features two laser engraved scales, one with standard metric spacing starting at zero from either end and on the opposite side, a center scale with zero in the middle. It comes with four steel tabs complete with a pencil slot, v-notch and a scale window plus a machined one inch stop. Made in U.S.A. Ships in 48 hours.

The fact that the holes are 2mm apart is not the same thing as being accurate to 2mm. Also, the two rows of holes are staggered, so effectively there is a hole per millimetre.

If you wanted holes spaced more closely together, Incra make an 6", 12" and an 18" T-rule, and a 150mm T-rule.

Just a PSA... Woodpeckers is currently doing a 10% off sale.  Coupon code is 'SAVE10'.

Doesn't apply to clearance items, but does stack with most sale prices.

So a 900mm story stick comes down to $29.69 (+shipping)

Thanks Richard!  I wasn't aware that there are two rows of holes.  Much better.

My understanding is that Incra widely markets a variety of metric tools in Europe, Canada, etc. but not in the US.  The only metric t-rule I have been able to find here is the 12 inch/305 mm rule, which is awkwardly long for me.
