Woodpecker Paolini Pocket Rules Stainless or Aluminum

I prefer the stainless because it’s thinner, so marking feels more accurate.  It’s a matter of personal preference though.

I sold the original aluminum version because it was too thick and I never used it.  [sad]

I've since purchased 2 stainless versions. I like the stainless version, I use them a lot.  [big grin]

I have both (different generations).  The older, aluminum one is more likely to deform if I drop it on the concrete.

I will second this- I have two that are aluminum models and one drop on the concrete will deform the edge and not allow the stop to slide off the ruler until fixed.  Looking at getting the stainless models since it sounds like they are more durable.

Seems the consensus is for the stainless.....but what size is considered the most practical?  Or, is the complete stainless set ideal?

Here’s my vote...in one photo.  [big grin]

Actually check out the marked divisions between the two rulers. One was mfd in 2014, one was mfd in 2016. Those markings are identical, not a point to be overlooked. In the past this was one of the hallmarks of Starrett measurement scales/rulers.

I had gotten the 6" imperial and the 12" combo.  The 6" fits in a pocket and is used very frequently.

I also wanted a metric scale (I have very few metric measurement tools) so I got a combo in 12".  It is not used often unless I need a quality metric scale.  If I'm measuring in inches in that range, I tend to prefer a standard combo square.  I have a 16" Swanson that I prefer, having now verified (after accumulating much more expensive tools) it's dead nuts accurate and square.

The 8" size made less sense to me - too small and too big at the same time as opposed to "just right."

I prefer the stainless version in 8" size.  It's just long enough for most of the stuff I use it for, yet at the same time, it's a touch too long for pocket carry.  The seat in my car will show you why it's a touch too long, dangit!  That said, I'd still choose the 8" size every time.

I have the aluminum blade one and would have rather gone with the stainless. Wasnt an option when I bought mine.

I couldn't decide on what to buy, so just overbought. I'll eventually sell what isn't used.

6" Stainless Imperial
6" Stainless Metric
8" Stainless Combo
12" Stainless Imperial
12" Stainless Metric
