Hi guys, last night I finally got my 26 X 14 Woodpeckers squares...and they were worth the wait. I got one attached to my squaring rail today and it cuts PERFECTLY square. I don't mean it's 1/64th out in 24 inches...I mean it's square. These are great tools. Has anybody heard any rumors about their future one time tool offers?

I can't comment on rumors.  [wink]

Glad you like it. That's what I got one for when it shows up.

Lol...sure, I've looked at their site.... :). I was wondering if anybody has any (not on the site) scuttlebutt about tools they have yet to offer. I've been told that the owner of Woodpeckers posts on this forum, so maybe somebody here is "in the know".

Thanks for the link.

I got their 18 inch square based on the feedback here and it great!

That 26 square is massive!  What are the connectors you are using to connect it to your rail?

Thanks!

Rookie:
I used a couple of Festool limit stops and played Doctor with them a little bit. If you install them backwards they will hang over the outside of the rail, and if you mill about 1/32 of an inch off the part outside of the rail it will hover 1/4 inch off the bottom plane of the rail. This accommodates attachments to a lot of Woodpeckers 1/4 thick tools. I have a Woodpeckers 12 inch triangle, a 12 X 8 square, and the new big square drilled and tapped with 1/4-20th bolts to attach to any rail. The triangle is also tapped on the 45 degree side to..well...cut 45's with the rail too. I would have liked to have a metal adapter...but I don't do metal. lol If you'd like some closer pictures of the modified limit stops just let me know and I'll post 'em here.

Seth, thanks for the thread link, I hadn't found that one yet.

If you have some time and could post some pictures details of the connectors that would be great!

Thanks

For anyone who hasn't received theirs yet...

I hadn't received my order which includes the 26" (660mm) square so I spoke to Karen at Woodpeckers this morning.  She told me that the metric versions are held up, just going through the laser engraving process and should see them in a week or two.

I haven't received my "inch" model yet, I just called Karen -- she said she has about 90 of the imperial models yet to ship, those should be shipped over the next couple of weeks.

Also, the new box clamps are now shipping -- the shipping department is behind, they are working on getting those orders filled.

So I guess that means I can lay blame on the last 90 people to hold up getting my metric version.  [tongue]

You can't blame me, I got mine last week.  [smile]

I'll assume that I will be #89 or #90...  [wink]  I just have to wait.  I appreciate their business has greatly increased and they have trouble with manufacturing  capacity (capital$$) however there isn't much (any?) good reason to allow their shipping department to be a backlog constraint.  What ever length of time those finished goods await shipping is wasted $$ to them and whatever measurement they grade themselves on for customer satisfaction.  [mad]

Don't feel bad, Ron, I probably got mine a little sooner because I ordered it in 2005.  [big grin]

If only I too had clairvoyance...  [unsure]
Actually no "feel bads" here, now if I had an investment in their WIP $$.  [scared]  Unlike BCT which gets half the money up front before most of the tools are even designed Woodpecker eats the cost from design to shipping (except Paypal).

As someone who had the experience of packing a lot of boxes for shipping on a MFT with a makeshift shipping arrangement and not all the nice capabilities that companies who do this for a living have - A couple of weeks to ship 90 orders for squares?  I am a very understanding person, but if I had been told that I don't know if I could have held my tongue.  [tongue]

Peter

The shipping boxes are CNC'd from space age cardboard flimflamulite.

They've always taken extra care in shipping my stuff.  Hopefully that's why.

I hear ya (agreed), however Karen is a wonderful person that I've spoken with dozens of times.  She really seems key in their office flow but probably has little influence in the shop and shipping processes.
As bad or worse is my (stand alone) order for the new molded box clamps -- she says those are already manufactured also (I envision hoppers full of components) awaiting packing -- The calendar is on day seven (7) for those & counting. [blink]
By contrast, if you have ever ordered from McMaster-Carr Supply -- call before 3:00pm and the item will be delivered the next day (standard UPS handling).

I agree, the tools do arrive well packed.

Hey,  I wasn't ragging on Karen or anyone else there.  In fact I wasn't even really ragging on them at all.  I was really ragging on a business situation where people get stuck in a position and which way to use employees can make a long term impact.  I certainly am not perfect and am not afraid of telling anyone that.  [eek]  I also know about controlling expenses and maximizing either profit or cash flow.  But, if you are a for profit manufacturer, and you want to reduce the time to receive income, and you have product in house to ship, and you have a shipping person who is swamped - there are alternatives - short term and long term.

By example in another industry:  Let's assume that I am an extremely successful contractor who spends his time in the field producing income.  But because my time is so valuable there I don't pay attention to the fact that I haven't been billing, so the bank account is bare - but I do have a ton of work to invoice customers for.  If I am worried about cash flow - I should either outsource the invoicing part or hire a temp.  If I think that it is invoicing problem is permanent - then hire permanent or outsource permanent.  If I really think that what I need is to invoice so as to maximize profit now - then minimize costs to invoice and take longer to invoice by doing it myself.  Isolated hiccups in a process are just that.  But when the hiccups don't stop and there is a pattern then care should be paid.

I have bought from Bridge City and done that.  I have bought from Woodpeckers and done that.  I will happily do so again.  I don't mind waiting.  But others do.  I wish all of them the best success and hope everyone gets their tools soon!

Peter
