Woodpeckers Parallel Guide System now available permanently

I would be curious if this is the updated design with the wedge lock for how it attaches to the rail. All of the pictures indicate the original design. Originally this system had reputability issues and Woodpeckers issued an update in the form of a long bar similar to what TSO is doing for its rail connectors.

Yeah, I received the newsletter this morning. The Woodpecker parallel guide price is similar to the Festool one. 400$ versus 423$ for the Festool. The Festool PG have an extension guide to add to it, not the Woodpecker PG.

I'm wondering if the Woodpecker one is more versatile and easier to use. I watched a video of both and I'm still not convinced.

I have one. It’s similar to the other aftermarket ones. I have used it on occasion to cut large panels, however since the TSO rail square came out it has mostly sat in the systainer. All these parallel guides are all finicky to set up, but do work well whenused. Personally, unless you do a lot of panels or don’t have a table saw I would just get the rail square. It is much easier to just use a tick mark and use the square. It is a very accurate method.

I don't have a table saw (been trying to avoid committing the space) and have been mostly pretty happy with the PGS. My biggest complaints are:

The stops are hard to get tight and tend to work loose.

The rail attachment is kind of clunky - it's harder than I'd like to get them on and off.

The foam insert in the Systainer is fine for shipping, but means that you have to break them down more than is ideal for frequent or convenient use. For example you have to take the rail attachments off. There is room in the case to store them with the first hunk of scale mounted to the rail attachment, but for some reason they didn't decide to do it that way.
On the other hand, I really like the short sections of scale, they make the PGS much easier to work with it tight quarters.

look for TSO's new TPG-30 R Parallel Guide shipping in February.

I totally agree that the foam cut Woodpecker's does is great for shipping, but is suboptimal for actually using it.  Definitely too much disassembly is required.

Hans, here's my own not-so-innovative answer...

Your squares have spoiled me, I stopped using 2 PG's as soon as I got one. I'm certain whatever you put out will be even better.
