So I have to ask, I have been buying woodpeckers one time run goodies now for at least 3 years, today after Thanksgiving dinner, I am browsing thru a Woodcraft Catalog and low and behold I find Pinnacle marking and measuring tools that look just like the ones I buy from woodpeckers.
My question to anyone who might know whats the difference in these tools.
I even see some price difference in these tools. So is it me thinking they are a copy of woodpeckers stuff or is this another Woodpeckerproduced tool under a different name and color.

Choice number 2.  [smile]

I spoke to Richard at WIA and he said they are all Woodpeck designs for the pinnacle product.  Interestingly, he mentioned that his brand is a premium brand to Pinnacle with better recognition, which makes me wonder whether there would be more money in the deal for Woodcraft to just buy Woodpecker products with a higher price and likely better margins.  What I don't know is if they too are made in the USA or overseas, which would certainly affect the cost / margin.

I don't have any pinnacle, only wood peck.  I like the red for findability!

What Karen at Woodpeckers told me one time is they are both made on the same machines at the Woodpeckers plant and re-branded and colored (black) for Woodcraft Supply.

I have 12" rules in both. They are identical except color. Same quality as far as I can tell.

I have not seen any re-brandings except for Woodcraft.

Thanks guys for your answers, I sort of believed it was a Woodpecker product redone for some one else.
Like I love the Green, I am a also a lover of the red...

Damn Sal, you had me a little confused there.  No more at the ship store.  I'll just add to everyone elses that yes, they are the same product, just different color and name for Woodcraft stores.  I have several items in that branding and I've been very happy with them.

Was told the same thing by owner of Woodpeckers.

BIG + 1 on red is easier to find when you lay it down.

Cheers,

Ken  I felt it was time to put the shipstore handle to bed so to speak...Hell I know who I am and I guess so do you [big grin]
I will stay with the Woodpecker Red as to me it is an awesome tool to have and use.

I purchased a couple of things in the Pinnacle version for my site kit, because I thought the flat black finish  with white markings might be a better contrast in shadowy, low light or inside cabinet situations. Not that the red/white isn't easy to see also.

Also bought the 6" (6.5?) Precision Square in black to replace the gold one I had. This was before Woodpecker's dropped the gold color  that had been used on some things. It was too hard to read the white markings.  It is now produced in red.

I bought the Pinnacle 32" T-square because Woodcraft had a special going & it was quite a bit cheaper and also the 2" Mini-square for checking plane irons -- the black is a little easier too see gaps when the square & iron are held up to the light.

Hmmm. Does Woodpeckers produce items in quantity for other retailers as well? I wonder if they do, and I wonder if that has anything to do with the apparent inability to accurately estimate delivery times for the one-time tools.

Food for thought. Great post.

I don't think so, at least I have not seen any of their stuff in other colors/brandings.

My guess on the delays over the last few months was a need to ramp up production again. I am thinking they are back on track  and pretty well caught up at this point.  At least based on the items I have recently received.  ???
