Saw a video on WP’s new router plane. Looks well thought out. I have two LN router planes and they are a delight to use. I can’t see where the WP tool fits my needs though. It’s pretty big.

saw the video yesterday.  Looks neat.  2 questions: how do you sharpen it?  will it come with different size blades?  seems like only one is included  Probably questions for [member=7266]jeffinsgf[/member]

I sharpen my router plane cutters on my water stones. You do have to be careful to not gouge the stones.

It comes with a square blade and a spear point. The blades are screwed to the mast, so sharpening is relatively easy. It's going to be supplied razor sharp, so it will be a while before you have to get into that.

Thanks Jeff. I saw that it comes with 2 blades but they both look to be same size.  will there be different size blades ?  (1/4, 3/8, 1/2") etc

1/8" or 3 mm cutters are very important in my work for grooving, used as often as the 1/2". My smallest router cutter is 1/16".

It looks really good. I have wanted one, but never pulled the trigger on it. I like the multiple mounting locations for the blade mechanism. Waiting is no fun though.  [unsure]

It will probably ship earlier then january 15th

Just ordered the Blue Spruce version because, well, wood handles?
I like the out of the box thinking that a router plane doesn't have to look like the legacy router planes our dads (grand-dads) used, and the base plate configurations are appealing.

I ordered the Woodpeckers version as soon as I saw a promo video on Instagram last weekend.  I've wanted to add a router plane to my shop. Given my penchant for the later Bridge City aluminium/steel/metal look and that John never developed a router plane the Woodpeckers appealed to my taste right away.

You didn't hear it from me, but...

Early orders will NOT be waiting until January. The first production batch will be shipping within a week or two. Not sure how many were made and sales have been good, so they're going back on the mills as soon as we can get material back in.

I'd been holding off on a router plane, but the versatility of this one caused me to pre-order the Woodpeckers version.

Were it not for my existing investment in the Veritas one along with a set of blades and the inlay cutterhead, I’d definitely be looking at this for the base plate versatility.

Same, even with the blade roll! But the configurability to pull along the long-body length...  [eek] but I'll get the Blue Spruce version so Dave gets a cut and I get more purty handles. Like, dude, shouldn't you be offering your paint-can openers again!? perfect gift for the SO who uses your fancy chisels to open those HD Behr paint cans! (why does Dave Jeske have a handle on here?!?)

Got notification that mine has shipped...

Dilemma: Open it when it arrives as it's a nice and shiny toy and I'm excited, or give it to my wife unopened to gift to me for Christmas (it wasn't due till January anyway)!

I received my WP version a few days ago. One of the knobs has some dings on it from the factory, but I'm not worried since WP will take care of it.
