Work shoes

I wear Puma workshoes, i like them and they are the first work shoes i had that don't give me back pain when standing on concrete all day, even when it's freezing.
But they are about a year old now and halfway disintegrated, but considering i wear them 6-7 days a week for 10 hours a day i think i had a good run for my money.
Cheap shoes usually last 2 months before falling apart and they hurt when standing on hard cold floors.
I'm also in the run for a new pair, but can't decide. Even though it's getting time because i can stick my hand between the sole and touch my socks lol.

Merrill's are ok they start to fall apart after 3-4 months and I paid $100-125 for my 6" hikers
I've been wearing a pair that are made in Germany. They are leather and soft leather lined.
They are great

$224 a pair

Lowa boots renegade. Rei sells them and so does shoebuy.com
Sometimes you can get the for 25% off

+1 on the Lowa Renegades.  I'm on my fifth pair.  Wish they had hard toes, though.  They're made in Slovakia, not China.

Be sure to get shoes with steel. I won't wear anything that hasn't got steel toes. Learned my lesson after dropping a full sheet of 1" birch ply from 1 m height. The big toe got totally mashed up and the other toes went totally blue.

Well...I remember a day last summer at our summerhouse in Sweden. The gas suddenly went out of the hydropneumatic suspension on my Citroen C5 and the trailer hook went down on my foot with a funny squashing sound!  [blink] I believe most of Halland could hear my roar!

That day I wished my safety sandals were built like these:

I have never had a pair of Merrill's fall apart.  I am wearing them on a roof, crawl space, doing decorative stamped concrete work, shop work and install's.

I have had Merrill send me a new pair once because they couldn't believe I wore the Vibram soles out.

I will take my chances without steel toes.  I used to wear them where I worked, but I hated every pair I tried.

The OP is wearing sandal's and you guys are harping on steel toes.  I think you missed the mark a little.

Thanks for the info... I did not know Nike or Puma did workshoes (I live a very sheltered life as far away from the mall as possible). I like the safety sandals, but cannot see myself wearing socks with them.

Nope...we're not missing anything in my opinion. The guy's asking for advice regarding work shoes.

Maybe Pugilato has been used to wearing flip flops but I'd never recommend an upgrade from flip flops to another  "non safety shoe or sandal". And since he's situated in a nice warm place I recommend sandals...safety sandals that is.

I've seen threads on this site that has been locked or deleted because of unsafe use of machinery. In my opinion safety is not only about machinery, it includes ear protection, eye protection...and shoes!

So you have your opinion and we have ours. I'm not saying that you're wrong about your preferences regarding work shoes...it's your feet and your choice. But I won't agree that were missing the mark.  [smile] [smile]

Kind regards
Henrik

Those Nike shoes I posted are not work shoes by far. They are athletic shoes that I just find absolutely comfortable if I am spending long hours on my feet. If there was a chance to drop something with potential to crush my toe, I would probably get toe protection.

These are the ones i currently wear, they were on sale on a website when i got them, otherwise i wouldn't have known Puma made real work shoes.

As for the steel toes, in woodworking i find it just as important as wearing eye protection and hearing protection. I use my shoes as tools, i can rest heavy beams on them, kick heavy stuff in place or break the fall of heavy things.  Once you are used to them you don't dare using anything less anymore.
In the past these shoes were horrible, the ones we had to wear at school, or otherwise we couldn't enter the workshops, were terrible. But the more expensive ones i have now i can see myself running a marathon with them.

Well, I am in charge of myself and I don't require myself to wear steel toes.

Having safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toes just to show up to work is not my thing.

I am cautious and pay attention to what I do (most would pee them selves if they tried to use my machinery) but I will be damned if I am wearing hearing protection, safety glasses and steel toed shoes to trim out a house.

I tried to fire myself, but did not get too far.

These are my favourite work shoes. When I am finished for the day I can go for a nice refreshing dip in the sea. Great for stamping on cigarette butts [big grin] [big grin]

Red Wings. Tried cheaper boots but they don't last and my low back suffers. Can't wear a shoe without arch supports very long.
