Work Shorts?

I've been a construction worker, power plant electrician, offshore roustabout, longshoreman, and more in Texas in the heat of summer. I never saw anyone in shorts and nobody would have been allowed on those jobs in shorts (or tennis shoes).

This is a new concept to me.

Tom,

I guess that things are bigger and workers are tougher in Texas.  [big grin]

Around here you will see shorts on the residential sites, long pants on the commercial sites.

Oh man, I would get a 10 page lecture from some of you guys.

I was in the shop last week in shorts, tennis shoes and had my shirt off because it was so dang hot.

I had safety glasses on though.

To each his own but, don't preach to me about it.

I think a lot of the shorts or pants deciscion has to do with the work type and situation (aside from OSHA).   In the posts above some really varied locations and such have been pointed out.  There is a difference between a construction site or rehab, and standing in a shop or painting or attaching hardware to a cabinet.  Also working alone or with a crew and lots of activity.

When I am doing site work especially outside , I want pants regardless of the heat, simply for the protective value.  But assembling picture frames in the shop when it is 95 and humid ......  I will take my chances with shorts.

On the gloves with circular saws...............  Holzhacker, how do you feel about the close fitting "mechanic style" such as those from Ironclad?

+1.  I won't wear gloves with any kind of circular saw, table saw or router.  No how, no way.  Not negotiable.  End of story.
