I have been using my CT Mini along with my ETS 150/5 alot lately and absolutely love them.  I dont get aggravated by sanding anymore! LOL  It is virtually dustless sanding as you all probably know by now. But besides using the sander and vac together I have been using the CT Mini for cleanup chores on the jobsite. I need attachments for it and wondered which kit is a better deal. I am looking at the compact kit for $75 (i think), because I dont see the need for the extra hose. Any suggestions for this?

If you have any plans of buying a router or Kapex you may want to get the kit with the 36mm hose.  There are many threads that talk about using the larger hose on these tools.

Hi rex,
I bought an extra 27mm green hose, so I have 7 meters of distance at max, together with a 7 meter powercord. I plug my sanders into the Mini, and turn the suction down to minimum or a little above. Voila, I have good dustextraction, minimal noise and have it out of the way. It also give added space around the working area, so I don't step down from a ladder, into the CTL Mini. As I experience the hose can twisat a little sometimes, I absolutely like the tilt down floorstand at the front of the vac. so it stays planted.
A good setup I feel.
I should add, that I don't get any blocking of the long hose, and the airspeed should be well enough. It works for me.

Cheers,
Redfox.

Rex, I happen to really like the installer/tradeperson set. It comes with floor sweeping attachments and other basic nozzles plus the D36 anti-static hose in a Systainer 4, making it a good value. I did a short of this set, you can find it on my website: Installer cleaning set.

Brice,

Excellent review, and spot on.

Rex,

I recommend the same.  [2cents]

If you are considering getting a cleaning set that includes a hose, the hoses can be anti-static or not and the tubes can be metallic or not. There are also differences in the floor nozzles.

If you (or worse, your helper) drop(s) a metallic tube on a shiny new wooden floor, you may regret it.

I have the compact kit and after using it for a small year I'm a little bit disappointed by it when it comes to cleaning.

1 - The plastic tubes aren't that strong. When you want to give the floor a good rubbing they just don't hold up, they bend all the time or disconnect sometimes. Very annoying.
2 - The 27 mm hose is just too thin for good cleaning. With bigger chips, the hose constantly clogs at the start of the nozzle. It is really worth getting the 36mm hose to avoid this.
3 - The green hose might be anti-static, but the plastic tubes somehow are not. It is incredible how much dust sticks to the outer part of the tubes when you give carpet a good rub. It literally gets a coating of dust on the outside. I have never seen this happen with any home or shop vac before. I have to clean them on the outside very often.
4 - The included assortment of floor nozzles is a bit too select for my taste. For serious cleaning you'll want a couple of extra pieces, which leads to 5)
5 - It is always a puzzle to get all the parts in the systainer after you're finished. It is possible of course, and to be honest I even get two extra parts in there when you arrange them in the right way, but it remains a hassle. A bigger systainer for the kit is no luxury.

So for me, a kit with a 36mm hose and the metal tubes is high on my list. And I'd get an anti-static hose instead of the normal one. If you want to use the 36mm hose later on with other (perhaps later purchased) tools, anti-static comes in real handy.

does the larger 36mm hose fit the CT Mini? And is the hose end fitting the same as the 27mm hose(to fit onto the sander dust port)?

It will fit the CT Mini and every other Festool vac, but it won't fit the dust ports on the sanders and a lot of other tools. You will need to make an adopter for that.

Btw, I wonder why Festool doesn't sell an adapter for this.

I think it is because they know there is no need for that large of a hose to be hooked to certain tools.

Think about what tools both work on and it will make sense.

I purchased a 36mm to 27mm hose adapter from Bob Marino.  Works like a charm and now I only need 1 hose on my boom arm.  I can switch between the 1400 and the 150/5 without switching hoses.  It's a great concept, I also wonder why Festool doesn't already sell an adapter.

Considering how often the subject comes up here, I'd go against the idea that "there is no need for that large of a hose to be hooked to certain tools". If Festool might have that impression, their assumption is incorrect and I think this forum proves that. When people want to change from one tool to another they don't always want to change out the hose also.

I guess they want you to buy at least a couple of vacuums.  For instance, I used the 75, 1400, 1010, and 150/5 all in one day.  I used the new adapter I purchased to use the 1010 and 150/5.  I don't think this is unusual to use a variety of tools with only 1 vacuum.  I'm happy with my adapter, but I am surprised we don't get hear about the logic straight from Festool.

sounds complicated to have 2 sizes of hose and adapters....... [sad] I have been using my Mini with the 27mm hose for general small sized cleanups without any attachments, and it seems to work very well.  Do the attachment kits fit the 27mm hose or just the 36mm?

An ETS 125 has no need for a 36mm hose, nor any other sanders.

I guess that's why you cant hook it right up with out making some sort of adapter.

Plus that hose is awkward for a sander.

Darcy,

I am thinking that's what Festool had in mind when creating the dust port sizes - smaller tools - smaller hose, larger tools - the option for a larger hose.

I have bought a bigger hose for my CT Mini a while ago. Used it with the OF1400, the TS55 and Kapex. To be honest, the only difference I noticed was with the Kapex. No need for the bigger hose on anything else--ok, maybe the OF2200.
The cleaning kits all work fine with the smaller hose and mini.

The 1400 can handle pretty big bits so you can make a ton of chips, I'd say the D36 is worth while for it as well.

Brice,

I have found that more often than not, my of 1400 clogs right at the router regardless of the hose size I am using. am I doing something wrong?
