WOW Passed Away?

such a shame . he was always a great member
we all knew he wasn't well but we didn't realise it was that bad

Hi everyone,

This is WOW's daughter, Andrea.

My dad passed away unexpectedly very early in the morning of April 29th.  His funeral is tomorrow, and I know he would be very grateful to you for the kindness shown to his family in this post.

I apologize for not posting anything sooner.  Because of the unexpected passing, we are having to go through all of his files to find business contacts, unfulfilled deals, and personal information.  We are still unsure where everything is, and anticipate several weeks before we have a handle on everything.

My dad had sold a bunch of mini-systainer first aid kits, which we still plan to complete and ship.  It will take some time, but we believe we have most, if not all, of the information needed.  We may need to ask questions on the group to locate everyone and confirm information.

I appreciate the offers for assistance, and will more than likely take some of you up on them once we know better what we're dealing with.  He was an absolute Festool fan and had a massive collection - and I will need help making sure that all the individual systainers are complete, since some of them were out and in use in his shop.

E-mails sent from this site will go to my e-mail account, and I will respond as quickly as possible, but obviously things are a little crazy right now, so please bear with me.  Once again, thank you for your kind words.  We miss him greatly.

Thank you for posting Andrea. We will do everything we can to help your family as best we can. I think I speak for everyone that Wayne touched here, by saying he was one of a kind... And truly will be missed.

Take your time and be with your family and know that we are here for you all when you need us. Feel free to PM me when you need help.

Take care and God bless.

Bryan.

Andrea,
My sincerest condolences to you and your family.  As you can tell by the posts, your dad made quite an impression on many of us, as I'm sure he did with his family.  He will be greatly missed but always in our thoughts.

Gerald

Oh WOW, you were the big man on the forum but if in real life. Rest in peace. Honor your memory.

Andrea, your dad's posts here on FOG said a lot about the depth of his character.  They were always insightful and welcoming, and he would go out of his way to help others.  He leaves a wonderful legacy on FOG.

My deepest sympathies to you and the rest of his family.

Mike A.

Andrea,

Thanks for your post.  I'm glad you had a chance to read how much the people here thought of your dad.  We might never have met him in person, but we got a good sense of him from the many ways he went out of his way to serve us---whether with first aid systainers, a helpful post, or just a kind word.  He was a true gem, as you must know.  You and your family will be in our prayers.

David

Andrea, again my condolences to you and your mother and Family.

Honestly (my opinion) don't feel obligated to finish the mini systainer any time soon (or at all). You and your family have more important things to deal with.

Appreciate the thought and I feel you are certainly your dad's daughter....

Wouldn't mind getting the mini first aid systainer but I am fine too if you take the money I sent as a donation in memory of your father.

All the best,

Malte

My thoughts exactly

it would seem the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

On that note I had the idea that we 'the FOG', if there was interest, could donate an apple tree to WOWs family. Species would be of their choosing of course.

Why an apple tree, well I felt it would be a good representation of WOWs contributions to both Apple and woodworking.

Haven't figured out yet how to do that yet, but if there was interest from both WOWs family and the FOG and potentially a local helper we could make it work.

Interested ?

Good idea, but what if they decide to sell the property right away?

Whilst I didn't actually have any discourse with WOW since I joined the FOG I did read some of his posts whilst perusing various threads and he always came across as eager to help where he could.

I would like to say that I have found this thread very gratifying and in these cynical times it is nice to see from so many members the high esteem that Wayne was held in from this forum.

My sincere condolences to his Family and Friends.

Agree, that risk is there.

An apple tee is a great idea for a donation.  However, fruit trees of any kind require extensive knowledge and expensive care. I just googled "apple trees grown in Minnisnowta, er--- Minnisota.  I was looking for one of the hardy varieties I might be familiar with.  The only ones suggested (on the site I have so far looked into) that are common here in Connecticut were Macintosh and Cortland.  They list both as mid season varieties.

Around here, Macs are known as very early and Cortlands are early mid season.  Those two are only common (ly) mentioned for central Minnesota.  All other varieties, of which I know nothing are either common more in southern sections of wow's state.  There are a few FOGgers located in Minnesnota, who, if the idea bears fruit, might be of more help and knowledge.

If something along tree lines does not work, perhaps Andrea could tell us of a favorite donation site we could send remembrances to.

For Andrea:  Andrea, our firstborn is an Andrea.  By coincidence, I am a Wayne.  I know of several Andreas and it seems there are many pronunciations the the name. Our daughter is pronounced the way my wife saiid it should be. She is Old country German, so who dares give argument.  We say Ahn-dra(long a)-ah.  If you should reply, I would like to know as then I can think of you as a reality.  Many of us never knew your dad other than as a friendly and helpful FOGger.  Many of us, if closer, would try to be of help in your present situation.  We will miss your dad's presence.  My best condolences to you and your family.
Tinker

(Another "Wayne"  I looked up the name many moons ago.  I found two sources, both related>> one comes from "wainrite" meaning wheel maker. The other source said the name means wagon maker.  I think your dad fit the name well. Both the wheel and the wagon were very helpful advances to the civilized world.)

Hey everyone, I am truly amazed and grateful for all of you wonderful people.

For those who want to make donations:  We are suggesting that people donate to the Pennington County Humane Society in Thief River Falls, MN.  This is where my dad's beloved dog, Kara, came from.  Dad was training Kara to be his service dog...we will now keep her in our home furever as a member of the family.  She was his best friend, and was by his side even during his last minutes.

Regarding the apple tree, I love the idea and the symbolism, but things are still up in the air with everything, so I think we would rather the donations go to the place Kara came from.  They are creating a brick in the memorial garden just for him and Kara.

Tinker, my name is pronounced Ahn-drie-ah.  I think that's pretty awesome that you and your daughter have the same names as me and my dad!

My dad's funeral was today, I was so happy to be able to tell my grandpa (his father) that we were receiving well-wishes on his son's behalf from all over the world.  It was a wonderful service, and we were truly able to celebrate his life.

Many of you will appreciate this....we created his urn out of an old Mac Classic II, and placed his photo in the screen.  If you would like, I can place a photo of the arrangement and the urn.

Again, thank you so much for all the support and gracious comments from across the globe.  It truly has made our family feel much more like we are not so alone.

Andrea

P.S.  We will finish the first aid mini-systainers (thank you for the offers of donations)....I definitely want those out in the world - my dad was SO proud to be able to help everyone get those!

Andrea. Have the HML folks also reached out?

I also think it is awesome that you guys incorporated the Apple side of his life.

Thanks for keeping us posted in your time of need.

Cheers. Bryan.

Andrea, thanks so much for the updates. Feel free to share any images you are comfortable sharing in a public forum. I appreciate you even considering taking the time in the midst of everything going on.

Bryan,

They have, thank you for checking (you obviously knew my dad pretty well!).  We actually are working with Dave Breggin (sp?) to deal with some stuff, and we will be keeping his biggest toy, so I'm going to need to learn to work on it!! I also need a bigger garage....    [eek]

We are going to get HML logins in a week or two.  Honestly, it's just too hard at the moment.

We gathered all the Festool items together with the gracious assistance of a nearby FOG member, and they are in their systainers.  I will sort through them at a later time and decide what will work the best for the jobs I am doing...except for the dust vac....that one may see some fairly immediate use!  All of the portable valuables will be in a protected location, and a buddy of mine will be keeping an eye on the non-portable stuff.

Thanks again for the concern and caring expressed here.  We are overwhelmed by all of the decisions we have to make, and the help we are receiving from friends and family is truly the brightest spot in all of our days.

Andrea
