Good to know. One question, do you have the AC van or just a regular one? Any thoughts on it?
Ceddy link,
I did get the AC Extractor. I have two CT 22 and a CT26…so why get the AC 36? The cost of normal bags and the cost of the drywall bags are about the same cost. Until I saw the unit with the plastic bag for drywall I didn’t understand how it all works. Any standard Festool Extractor uses a sealed bag and then a filter (HEPA) to total clean the air. The “Normal bags work very well for larger particles and other construction things., but as the particles get smaller and heavy like sheet rock dust.. the bags starts to seal themselves far before they are full.
The Auto Clean CT36 uses a plastic bag similar to a normal plastic garbage bag... (But, don’t get me wrong a normal plastic garbage it is not) it does have a cardboard connector with rubber (polymer) seal but it is like any garbage you put it in the bottom unit of the AC CT36 and then bend the top of the bag over the edge of the bottom unit. Just as you would do with a garbage bag in a garbage can, you pull the top edges of the bag over and down the sides of the bottom unit.
I haven’t sanded enough to really judge how well it works. I did see the local Festool reps unit and he had been using it and had many more times the amount of sheetrock dust in his CT 36 than I could ever put in a CT22. This observation convinced me that the Auto Clean was worth the price.
A whole new possibility came to mind after seeing the AC CT36. So many people post here about a cyclone… I wonder how much more I could sand with the AC CT36 for using any other CT? That is test that needs to be done.

What accessories dose someone need purchase also?
Chris,
Great question and one that could not get any feedback from dealers or user as the product is new to North America. With the 30 day money back guarantee … I go big.
I purchased:
The combo PLANEX with Festool CT 36 AutoClean
Additional Extension Section (that will fit in PLANEX MAXI Systainer and lets you reach up to a 12 foot wall)
Support Harness in Maxi Systainer (if you work on ceilings… you need this unless you are the Hulk)
CT AutoClean Blast Gate (on order) (this does two things, one it lets you do a hard cleaning of the filter, Two it lets you seal the CT when transporting so you don’t pour out sheetrock dust at the client site or in your (Bentley…. I wish) vehicle)
Normal HEPA filter for CT36 if I want to use the AC CT 36 for lead sanding… (the AC CT36 has not been tested to be a certified HEPA Extractor. But… the unit is the same as the CT36 HEPA but not tested with the HEPA filter so it is not certified. (yet or maybe ever as it costs a lot of money to certify)
Normal CT36 bags
Disposable Dust liners That you need for drywall sanding
The Dust Extractor Mount, this fits on top of what some of us would call the Hose garage. The “Mount lets you set the PLANEX down on top of the AC CT 36, and set sanding disks, and the removable brush edge section.

I wonder how long it's going to take Shane to get the info (and all the accessories) for this added to the site.
It's been on the site. You just need to enter "Planex" in the search field.
Planex
Planex Accessories
It's also on the dedicated Planex micro site:

Got to say that the Festool USA Site and the … what I perceive as lack of Marketing education is not up to snuff. On the Festool site you can find some things but not all. You can’t find prices on all.
Last Saturday I wanted to move on the unit. What I ran into in a 3.8 million population metro area was that … all local dealer staff did not have a clue what I was asking for and could not tell me if they had it in stock…
The most common reaction when I got when I asked do you have the Festool PLANEX and the AutoCleaner CT 36? … was …So you want a Planer that stays clean?.... yea they hook up to any vacuum every brand does that…. Can you say OUCH!!!!! If I had stock in Festool…. I would be selling it after my experience.
The most odd and almost concerning response was from Rockler. “we won’t carry that product as it about and for construction…and WE (Rockler) are about FINE WOODWORKING and would never use or sell a unit like that.” I asked are you serious? And the guy said “what I’m telling you what is company policy. I personally have had 3 calls this week about the PLANEX and could have sold three and you would make four this week.
I just hope Festool USA reads this site and wonder if they do focus groups as that would show that things are not working.
From this past Saturday I have had to give Festool product number to the dealers for them to even understand what I was looking for.
I have not been able to find a dealer with a CT AutoClean Blast Gate and ordered one today. I had to show them how to find it on the Festool Website…. If Festool USA thinks I’m making this up… I have had other people with me that will back me up.
Today I had to call Festool USA to find out if the AC CT36 used normal CT36 bags if I wanted to use it for other things.
Here is what really concerns me…. I had to do a lot of work to buy the PLANEX! The work that I did, the dealer should have done. But they could not even find the product number or understand it was not planer if I had not given them the product numbers.
Where I did buy the PLANEX unit from …. On my first call they said they had the sanding head but didn’t have the AC CT36…
After striking out…with all other dealers.. call back and said to them…. Hey if you have the PLANEX you should have the AC CT36… I had to give them the AC CT36 Festool product number and gee… they found it in their warehouse…..
I also was looking for some delta paper for my RO90…. And they also told me that the RO90 was a 90 mm round sander only… I took them over to their demo tools and showed them the Delta head….. and that the 93 DX works on it…. “Really?” was their answer.
Festool! What is it with your marketing/dealer training?
I like Festool a lot…but if I have to educate every dealer….about every product… should I be paying full price?
The Festool product is good… if you can get the dealer to understand what you want to buy, so you can take it home!
As someone with a Marketing, promotion and advertising background I want to revamp many favorite tool companies Marketing so they gain market share and don’t loss out to D_Wa_T…
The PLANEX is flat out a great product….but if I can’t buy one…from Festool dealers without educating… ? They want me to pay full price.
Hope this all make things clear. I didn't have a lot of time to post this.
Cheers,
Steve
