Yeah another Kapex thread. No complaints just need help, promise!

First i love my kapex.

I am kinda embarrassed to ask my question for two reasons. One being i have had the saw for about a year and yet to run into this problem. My guess is i would had if i had used it for the task at hand that revealed the issue I ran into today.

The second reason is i feel like i should know how to fix it myself being a carpenter.

So i was making some column wraps out of 3/4 x 12" Azek today and the out of square revealed its ugly head. Over the 12" or 11.25 or something the cut is off 1/8 inch. So if i miter both sides i end up off to the tune of 1/4 to 3/16.

So this is kinda a problem for me as i like my work to be perfect.

What can i do?

I did the flip the board back and forth to get square cuts but man that is labor intensive and for a 2K saw with all the bells Nd whistles seems kinda crazy!

Thoughts?

Have you ever adjusted it for square?  Mine came to me close enough that I never bothered but in the supplemental manual, available online, it goes through how to square it.  The plate with the indents can be adjusted.  Also, saw a post recently about the fence not being square, you might check that as well- it can also be adjusted.

Look at page 24 of the Owners Supplemental Manual. Take your time setting it up and it will be dead nutz.

I'm not sure why Festool don't include a copy of the suplementary manual with the Kapex from new, as it holds most of the answers.

Not sure it matters but when the saw is set at 0% and 0% it is square.

I will search the supplemental manual though.

Just a guess here, but I imagine it's because having it online saves money, saves trees, they're able to update it easily as needed, and an increasing number of people are finding it much easier and faster to bring up tech info from whatever manufacturer from their devices wherever they are, instead of dragging a bunch of manuals around. 

Another wild guess:  even if the ceo of festool came to a guy's house to personally hand deliver a manual with each new purchase, a very small percentage of guys (so small that it's statistically insignificant), would actually open it and read it...

The supplementary manual concept was brought to fruition by Festool USA - not Festool in Germany.  It is not translated into all the various languages and therefore might not be applicable for distribution - nor designed to be - in many places of the world.

That being said, personally I think that Festool USA could emphasize the various supplemental manuals more prominently on their website.  It could only help.

that's a good point, and like i prefaced my previous answer, i was just taking some guesses. i bought some of my festools before there were supplemental manuals available.  since the manual that came with the tool wasn't too good and i was overwhelmed by all the bits and pieces, i went online to find additional info on my new tools--that's how i ended up on this forum.  that's how i find info with other brands of tools as well--it's become second nature for me.  i think we're all in this transition period now where we see much less printed catalogs and manuals and much more, better and more timely info online on the mfg sites. 

now, i happen to print out these manuals because i like to scribble notes in them.  but even though i know i have them, they're not close at hand at the moment.  for the fun of it just now, i picked up my phone, typed in 'kapex manual' in the ol' googlematic and lo and behold, the first link that came up was the supplemental manual.  i clicked it and am reading it in a matter of a few seconds--that's pretty sweet. 

like you said, i'm sure festool could do more to get the word out, and that will help the one guy in a hundred that will read a manual. BUT, let us not distract them from what i see as their most important task:  getting all that naina stuff over to the usa already!

Part of that could start right here on the forum. When a new owner asks a question that is answered in the Supplemental Manual, tell them about the manual. It is surprising how many people have trouble with a tool, and the answer is right there but doesn't get mentioned.

Right now there is a thread going with a Domino owner having trouble with the retractable paddles. Yes, he got an answer, but it is also obvious that he doesn't know about the manual and no one mentioned it to him.
