Your Most Unusual Use of a Festool Sander?

Everyone,
I recently posted a review of the new Rotex RO 150 sander, where I used it to sand an old floor in my house (RO 150 Review).  This was pretty much the most unusual thing I have done with my Festool sanders.

But I'm sure I'm not the only one who has done something unexpected with my Festool sanders.  For example, there was a discussion back a while ago about someone who wanted to use the RAS 115 for power carving.  Not sure if that happened or not.

So tell us, what unusual jobs have you done with your Festool sanders? 

This sort of discussion can be amusing, but even more it can reveal the strengths of the tools.

I haven't tried it yet, but I've seriously considered using my Rotex 125 to polish scratched CDs & DVDs. My player is particularly flaky, especially with rental discs. I figured that it's pointless to shell out $30 for one of those CD repair kits that essentially does the same thing.

I used mine last week to remove the paint from the bottom of an aluminum puddle jumper (fishing boat). At first I wasn't sure how to deal with the slightly protruding heads of the rivets, then it occurred to me; I used commercial paint stripper and brushed it on, then used an interface pad and a very coarse Scotchbrite scouring pad. I set the Rotex on its lowest speed and wore an apron and face shield to protect myself. it saved me hours of hand scraping and did not damage the rivet heads.

Which attachment pad did you use between the scotchbrite and the rotex head?

I couldn't think of anything else so I used double stick tape. It didn't occur to me to take a photo of the work in-process but the idea is clear enough. Anything that makes stripping paint is a good thing, the only thing better is to get someone else to do it!
[edit] I used the soft pad and the interface pad to give it as much flexibility as possible.

I bought a tru-cut zero insert for my Unisaw and they didn't fit so I use my RO 125 with an abrasive pad to make it fit.

It worked as a charmed  ;D

Originally I purchased my linear sander to help a friend make a mission style coffee table (that never happened).

I had intended to begin building furnature with it, but last weekend I used it and the scraper blade to do dry rot repair on my girlfriends parents house.

It worked great!

Except for a couple of inadvertent nail "filings", I haven't done anything unusual with my RO150.  I do plan on stripping and repainting our porch and front steps so I'll be using it for that but I wouldn't call it an unusual use.

Gave my shoes the Kiwi once over.... the shine was dazzling. Used a foam polishing pad.

I have used my RO 125 with a felt pad to polish my wifes glass top stove.  Works like a charm.  Stove top looks brand new.

To get my teenage son off the computer and do a little work, I had him polish the old PC 7812 shop vac to get it ready for "mom's" garage sale.  Looked great, got $50 bucks, put it in the can towards the Kapex fund.
