your % of festools that needed repair within warranty period?

Lets redress the balance a little 3 dust extractors, domino,4 sanders track saw the only thing that's broken is the pin fell out of the domino auxiliary fence.
cross stops.Oh forgot the 3 routers

Russell,

I humbly disagree. If Festool sold TVs I would agree.... all you do is set it down and turn it on.  How people use tools is something that Festool can not control. If at a end of a cut if I  drop my TS 55 or 75 on the cement... that is not Festools problem...or a design issue. But I can send it in for warranty repair. This is a little bit like healthcare. My price to buy the product with the warranty is based on how everyone treats their tools.

Cheers,
Steve

Russell, you are certainly entitled to your opinions.

I have had the opportunity to visit the the repair facilities of Festool USA several times and myself - along with all the visitors - came away with the thought "There aren't many tools here to be serviced."  In fact the one time we were there, the majority of the tools were white as snow.  They had bee sent in my a marble fabricator who used the saws and dust extractors in his business.  They were there for servicing due to the type of work they performed in a most harsh work environment.

Even Bentleys have warranty issues just like Ryobi tools.

I wish you best with your tools!

Peter

About 2 years into the warranty period I had to take my CDD 12 fx in because the trigger was acting up. That's the only tool I have ever had trouble with, and 4 years on it is still going strong besides the batteries dieing on me. So out of 6 tools just one went in. So that's 16.66666666666 % which isn't to shabby.

I'm not listing all of my Festool tools for secrecy, but excluding accessories and the MFT (which I don't consider a tool), I have a total of 11 right now and only my C12 NiMH drill needed almost a complete rebuild for some freak of nature reason (it just died on me one day) and one of the batteries only holds a 70% charge.

Lester at Festool took great care of me with that drill.  Service has been above and beyond excellent.

Perhaps I am just lucky. I have not sold or traded any of the Festools I purchased since January 2006. None of my Festools has needed a trip to be serviced.

Sure, in November 2010 I took my 2006 TS55 with me to cabinet class in Henderson, NV. It was cutting very well, but I wanted Steve Bace to teach me how to adjust the toe. This became a valuable lesson for the entire class.

Only a few times have I needed to talk to Lester and others in Repair at Lebanon, IN Festool USA HQ. They have always made good suggestions. Occasionally they have identified parts needing replacement. Once I received those parts they told me the appropriate way to perform the replacement.

I have had 3 issues over a period of 11 years.

The first issue was with the OF 2000 router.
The first time I used it, the collet was not tightened enough and I damaged the threads.
It was completely my fault.
Festool picked up the tool from the site I was working on, left me a replacement for 1 week and then delivered the router to the site again the following week.

The second issue was with the Trion jigsaw.
The carbide guides were completely worn down.
I had been using different thickness blades and had not adjusted the guides for three years.
I thought that just the guides would be replaced.
Festool replaced the whole chuck which holds the blade and the guides.

The third issue was with the Protool 18 Volt Cordless drill.
When you applied pressure when drilling timber or metal, the drill would make beeping noises, as if the batteries were flat.
I was told by the service department that the electronics inside the drill were fried.
A new circuit board and the drill works perfectly now.

So out of three issues, two could have been prevented. Operator error so to speak!
The one serious issue that really bugged me was the Protool drill. After it got serviced, it has been flawless.

28 Tools in 11 years and 1 repair.
Thats not too bad.

Justin.

Hi,

I have ten tools. One needed repair. 10%.

Something to keep in mind with this thread is that it will mostly get replies from people who have needed a repair and fewer from people who have not. It is the nature of the question.

Didn't know we could include pro tool.

+ Protool sword
+ Protool auto feed gun
To my list. No warranty claims needed for these two

so far i think the results looks promising, i think that quality issues or mishaps will mostly show themselves within the first years of use. once it passes the warranty i think it's safe to think that most of the problems have been spotted and the coming problems will be due to wear.
the only tool "problems" i had so far were with two 10 plus year old bosch routers on witch i replaced the bearings myself.

Do all Festool dealers only warrant tools purchased from them?  I wouldn't have guessed that to be the case, I would expect any dealer to service any Festools or at the least send it in to a service center.
theres a sign that states that inside the dealers store, though they sell all powertool brands and also have a hifi corner.
since they are the official festool shop in shop dealer of the area, i do think they are not allowed to refuse any festools for service.

Well Steve to be fair I've had no problems with my festools so far, but I hardly us them the one I use most is my T15.
I have a Ts55, OF1400, CTL26, EHL65, Carvex and Trio, but if you're on a job and your new tool goes down it could be
Very inconvenient.

Thanks for the reply Russell,

As a pro I raised that very question to my dealer, if it goes down I am in trouble. My Woodcraft dealer said that if I have one go down, they would loan me their demo til mine is fixed. I haven't had one go down but they have loaned me demos for me to try for a few day on site .... all but one ended in a purchase...go figure.

Cheers,
Steve

Steve all I can say is" you're a lucky man", I don't have that sort of relationship with my dealer, hope fully I wont need too, lol.
My tools are almost past their warrenty and I've hardly used them, I tend to use cheaper tools on site because they grow legs on site and disappear; so the festools get used on private jobs.

I have never had a warranty repair on any of my 20+ Festool tools. I did however have an out of warranty repair on my Trion.  Total cost including shipping $65. Very reasonable to repair the plug-it & completely service the jig saw. Oh and 2 free blades. Great service.

I'm another guy with a good collection of Festool tools with no problems.  The only time I called the service department was for the Kapex spring plate.

Ditto, Brice.

With an OF110, OF1400, Domino (2X), TS55 (2X), a T15+3 and a MINI (2X) no problems at all. My only issue was a screw that dropped out of the table top of the MFT/3. The vibrations must have got it loose. And the MINI sucked it up when I was cleaning the floor. Because of the problems finding metric hardware, I asked Bob Marino to send a replacement. In a few days my MFT was in pristine state again and even free of charge.
