My son wants to refinish the dining room oak strip floor with a ZERO- VOC finish. He found  (RUBIO MONO). Has anyone used this? The recommend to "water pop the floor first". What does that mean? He is looking at Pure, Oak, Smoked and 5% Smoked.Any insight appreciated. Thanks, MARKhttp://www.peteshardwoodfloors.com/Wood-Floor-Techniques-101/our-zero-voc-finish-rubio-monocoat.html

Water pop- apply water, it raises the grain, sand raised grain.

Zero VOC does not mean no odor.

Look at Bona also.

I have Rubio on my floors.  Wouldn't do it again- with kids it just stains too easily.  Maybe in a low traffic area.  You can refresh it, but I've never had the time or space to clear out the entire house for a day to do so.  Lots of good low/zero Voc finishes that are more cleanable.

Thanks for the reply's. I will try to push for Bono or pure tung oil. The time to dry is a factor. The dining room cuts the house in half. Thanks, Mark
