1400 router

i have had this router for over a year ,one of 9 so it hasn't gotten used for everything . It is very smooth ,dought is has much of any run out .dust collection for mortise work is great . but with the cups/chip catcher added below it is weak on for catching dust on edge routing . i have the dust extraction hood that slides on the rods but cannot use it with the larger base .i find the larger base real important but it doesn't seem to allow me to use lower attachments .
oh and if i used the router more i might remember to not raise the bit when dust hood is in place -that thing gets mangled.
i really would like somesort of screw method to raise and lower the plunge depth , Bosch seems to have the nicest system .
So please let me know if there are ways for me to improve my routing .i have close to 1000$ in this with attachments and would like to make it more functional.

I think a lever to lock down the plunge would be better than the rotary knob. Quicker and less movement involved in tightening, and therefore less wobbling of the router.

Chip catcher rotates with vibration and sometimes gets in the way. And sometimes gets caught on corners, although maybe this would be helped by cutting the edges from attachment as described in the manual.

I too have smashed my dust extraction attachment to pieces by lifting the plunge while still spinning. Doh!

Handle is great. Allows for one handed use and different body positions. Although it can get in the way when routing out hinge recesses in door frames if you are using the parallel fence (unless you wanna swap the fence to the other side). But other than that, I really like the handle. Power trigger and power lock on are very comfortable.

Love the plug it cable. Much easier and quicker than unplugging from the transformer.

Attachments are great. As is the ratcheting of the collet.

Add more plus and minus points as I think of them!

You know, I really like the dust collection cup for edge routing If you think a little ahead to anticipate the areas that will be problematic the attachment can work great. First having the cup in the right position is the key to good collection. The cup needs to ride on the leading edge of the work piece some the chips a directed right into the cup. If there's a gap the chips easily escape.

I really like the 1400 for when I round over the ends of porch and deck flooring. I use most synthetic materials for this and since it doesn't biodegrade I can't leave the chips and dust in the yard. Putting down drops cloths is problematic since there is always shrubs or other plantings in the way. The dust collection is nearly 100% with the 1400 and 3/8" roundover bit.

With that said there are times the cup gets in the way.
