18v DRC Drill

Not sure why there is no love for the DRC. I will be getting one over the PDC as i already have a cordless sds drill. I also found in the past that combi drills such as the PDC were noisier and far too slow to be considered, except in an extreme emergency.  [smile]

You'll be right about the noise but it's anything but slow, even drilling through brick work.

Does anyone know if the DRC/PDC are the highest speed cordless drills or not?  I haven't seen anything close.

Fein Ascm 18 has similar specs to the pdc.  The Fein doesnt have a hammer option.

Fein definitely has an 18V hammer drill called: ASB 18.

Fein doesnt have a hammer option with the 4 speed gear box.  The Fein Hammer Drill only has two speeds

I have an TI15 and really can't find a comparison to the PDC. I also have an T18 and can't find a comparison to the DRC.

Just curious as the TI15 does all the hammer driving I need to do and the T18 is incredibly powerful.

The ti15 is an impact drill.  The pdc is a hammer drill.  They are different kinds of drills.  Its like comparing apples and oranges.  Impact mode and hammer mode are totally different.  Watch Peters Parfits video on the pdc.  Its an awesome drill....  Sorry Peter I think I spelled your name wrong.

Well I've bought the 18v PDC 4.2 set. Hopefully be here tomorrow,

looking forward to trying it out in a commercial/industrial environment. I can't see me ever using the hammer ive leave that to the Hilti  [big grin].

I'll be sure to do a good review on how the drill work for a sparky. Thx for the help guys

You have to try the PDC in hammer mode, preferably in a combined space  drilling in to an engineering brick just to experience the loudest noise known to man  [unsure]

Make darn sure you use the aux handle for tough drilling/screwing. I nearly sprained my wrist with the PDC without using it one time. It has some amazing torque!! [eek]

So I finally got to put the drill to some real world use over the last few days.

First impressions are it's actually lighter than I expected which is always good. The build quality is as good as I've ever had in my hand. Love the systainer lay out far better than what I've been used too.

So I took down a shed at the house using the pdc as a screwdriver, before buying this drill I was under the impression that it was an impactor and drill driver combined. it disn't impact but with the intelligent torque and gear settings it can actually be better for certain jobs if you need depth restriction then set the torque to the desired setting and the drill will stop and beep when you hit the spot [big grin]

So last couple of days at work(sparky) Im finding the drill a real pleasure to use. Drilling 20mm-64mm holesaws into dist boards the angle attachment has come in really handy aswell. It's by far the best drill I've ever used.

Anyone thinking about buying this drill get it bought you will not be disappointed

And take note of the comments on here as I found out today this drill has the potential to do some damage to your wrist lol. It did catch me by surprise thankfully nothing major but I knew to get the side handle on after that ha

Unfortunately, the Fein's clutch and trigger get a lot of complaints.

Fein ASCM 18 QX 4 speed Drill / Drivers

Again with the Amazon reviews.  [tongue]

Here's a solid scientifically proven negative about the Fein:

1. Investigate what specifically isn't covered under 3 year warranty.
2. Peep the prices on the individual batteries and charger.

[member=19475]yetihunter[/member]  What do you have against Amazon reviews?  Did you actually read the reviews on the Fein?  The complaints about the clutch design are valid.  Common sense tells you that.  It is easy enough to test the Fein's trigger in a store.  I bet the reviews in this case are right.  But, generally speaking, for Amazon reviews you do have to have an IQ above 100 and use some common sense.

What other cordless 18v tools does Fein make?  Would not make much sense to buy into their drills if they do not offer other 18v cordless tools.

Hopefully I didn't come across as too snarky.

Anyway, to answer your question: just the typical prejudices concerning
either bogus (paid) reviews or persons that don't have the credentials to review
the items they purchased.

I agree with you, though, those (albeit limited) reviews do come across as genuine.
The clutch issues wouldn't effect me, but certainly would effect (possibly most?) others.

I wish I could check out the particular drill in question.  I have local Fein dealers, but they trimmed their stocked offerings down to multimasters and supercuts.

The other tools that use that specific Fein battery include:

Impact Wrench
Impact Driver
2 Speed Combination Drill (hammer)
2 Speed Drill driver
Multimaster
Nibblers
Slitting Shears
Sheet Metal Shears

As far as I am aware, all of the 18v drills, excluding the ASCM, are outsourced to a firm in China.  The batteries are from Japan.  From what I understand, the outsourcing didn't effect quality, but does effect the pricing (negatively in the case of the batteries).

I don't believe the 18 nor 14v Fein tools are sold as bare tools, however.
At least not in NA.

Definitely! But only once - 'cos after the first time you'll never hear anything ever again!

Lol

Used mine twice in hammer mode, it's terrible. You end up with ringing ears. Might have to remove the switch to stop me from even thinking of using it again lol

That deafening percussion mode from the PDC is part of the reason I got the DRC.  [eek]

At first I didn't bother with the handle but the machine is so powerful that I quickly realized that it is really useful when drilling larger holes with holesaws. My DRC shares a SYS with the BHC18 and they share the grip.

Very pleased with the DRC so far.

I did drop it on conrete the other week from about 2 metres - not on purpose of course - but it came off the work pants and exposed one of the flaws: the belt clip is not that great, neither is the built in one. But, all in all still a great piece of kit. :)

Hey guys
...

I'm an electrician and to be honest most sparks over here haven't even heard of festool but I've been reading up and it seems there isn't any better out there. I've had panasonic 14.4v for the last 5/6 years the little impactor and the drill/driver,cracking little set never let me down but the time has come for an upgrade.
...
Regards Mark

Sounds like 5-6 years is a glowing endorsement. How much do you want for it?
