I took a two weekend class last month to build a replica of a 1920's stanley chest. we did almost the whole project with hand tools including the 5 panel doors and dovetails, the project was very rewarding here are a few pics i did change a few things from original to suit my needs but it fits very nicely on the wall in my shop

Walnut and maple is a killer combo.

Did you use vintage tools to make it?

Well The only hand tools I owend was a set of chisels so I borrowed tools from other people in the class and some were from the 1800's which was cool. After the first weekend I went to lee valley, lie Nielsen, and bridge city tool works and now I have my own hand tools and a large credit card bill.

I really like this piece. Seems too good to stuff into a workshop though.  Like the colour contrast in the wood you used.  Was it made form an old plan of a toolbox/store? What did you use to finish it?

We used an original box from 1925 as a model. I sprayed 4 coats of satin poly for finish, but I'm not that happy with the finish next time I will use somthing different
