hey!

Hope everyone is having a fine new year.
I was contacted by a new friend that built the same amp I built.  Well we got to talking and it seems Mike didn't have a case for his yet.

Hmm ... The case is the one thing I did not make for my 300B.  I considered it "unfinished business".  I've done some contouring/sculpting and came up with a variation on mine.  The Organic case.  Birds eye maple and purple heart accents.  Here's the work in progress.  Note My main man Crox is turning a purple heart volume knob [wink] 8)

Luke, looks great!  I'd love to see more on how you sculpted the contours

A little Purple Haze there, Luke!

Another great looking project by you.  Love your creativity.  I can't wait to see the final product!

All ya need is an RO90, an angle grinder, and a holy Galahad disc.  Medium or fine

Actually headed through the orange courting on the morrow.

Do those Galahad tools work on plate glass (do you know?)?
Or what does one use to shape glass plate like a peice of maple?

Progress.
Added the plinth and contoured the sides.  The top and rear aluminum panels will be cut and polished soon.  The purple heart for the knob is on it's way to [member=17405]Crox G[/member] for turning.

I also tested and made the acrylic rod that will goes into the plinth for the power led.  Pretty simple to work with.  I used a standard tube cutter (The kind with the cutter wheels that are rotated around the tube.)  to cut the piece that will go into the plinth.  Next I cut a little wood cube and drilled a hole a tad larger than the rod.  Than I used my  DMT sharpening plates to rub the cube on the plates to  polish the ends.  I don't see why sharpening stones wouldn't work.  The whole process took about 20 minutes.  If you want it crazy polished use 0.10 micron paper.  Or just flatten it and have it obscure for a cloudy indicator.  In the picture with the light I used a crazy powerful led flashlight.  A single small led will be used in the amp.

Luke,

Really love the subtle contouring and how it contrasts with the corners.  Can't wait to see it all finished!

Thanks for sharing the photos.  i always find inspiration in your projects!

Looking forward to the final results.  Don't forget to share on AK.
Thanks
AK ?

Crox has been great.  I really like the profile of the knob he turned.  However the color of the wood did not cooperate.  Purple Heart is a fickle beast that way.  I've seen it start Purple then over the years turn brown.  I bought the first chunks from Bell Forrest.  That's what's in the pictures. The chunks looked old and when I planed an edge it was brownish.  I called them and they said it oxidizes and turns purple over time.  Hmmm.  I thought they were the Omaha Steaks of wood.  It didn't make sense to return it so I sent it to Crox.

After looking at the results I picked up some 8/4 chunks from my local supplier.  You can see what the color looks like.  It does change based on the direction of the light.  Love to hear
others experiences with Purple Heart and color.

Get'n there.
I dropped the aluminum sheet off at the water cutter. They should be done by Monday.  Then polish and assemble.
