36 mm Hose

I am confused as all of the extractors come with a 27mm hose, how does the 36 fit in the extractor port.
I am thinking the hose size is really the only difference not the connectors.
Maybe someone can clear this up for me

27mm fits inside port 36mm fits over. BUT not on all tools Domino for instance will only take the 27mm.  unless you make up a hose adapter like Paul Marcel`s

The CT end of the hoses are all 50mm and rotate.

On the 50mm hose, both ends have the same 50mm, rotating fitting.

On the 27mm and 36mm hoses, there are rubber tool fittings.

Can Festool please make a 27 - 36 mm adaptor instead of this uber expensive piecemeal one that everyone is making?  For all the "system" thinking, Festool should be ashamed of this gap.

The 36mm hose fits the tools it is supposed to and does not fit the ones it is not supposed to.

Why would you want a 36mm with a reduced down end to fit on a sander?

There most certainly is a reason, you could only have the larger hose and use the adapter for sanders....

I, personally, don't like sanding with a 36mm hose. I think it's too unwieldy.

Yep.  I pieced together an adapter today with two tool ends and a 1-foot cutoff from a D27 hose.  $36 to be able to leave one hose on my boom arm.  [unsure]

Darcy, I generally have both hoses with me too.  My preference is the D27 also.  But like Alex said, there are people that would want an adapter, me included.

I'm fond of using the 36mm hose for routing, especially with bigger bits that take bigger chunks. I've plugged the 27mm hose with the OF 1400 and a 1/2" roundover bit.

I also like the 36mm hose for the planers and cleaning. The 27mm hose restricts the flow on a 22/33/26/36. I use the 27mm for the sanders and saws.

I have a 50mm that I use for a DW735 thickness planer and an acrylic box I built to capture the dust/chips from a CNC router. Prior to making that cover, it was an unholy mess. I couldn't get the controller far enough away.

Gents, I have absolutely no details other than inadvertently seeing an image on the website where we download our stock photography from Germany. But, I saw what appears to be a 36mm to 27mm adapter. No price, ETA, etc. so don't even ask.  [huh] I've not even seen or heard anything from Germany announcing this addition to the product line. As soon as I have info, you'll know about it.

The advantage of a short length of 27mm hose included in the 36mm to 27mm adapter is that it acts as a "whip". The increased flexibility of that short length of hose accounts for most of the decreased utility of the stiffer 36mm hose. Having just the end more "whippy", makes the entire hose seem more supple.

It's a common thing to do with air hoses... buy a cheaper, stiffer hose to get there and add a supple "whip" hose to the end.

I have made a few of these Festool 36mm-to-27mm adapters and I think I made them too short. Thanks to this thread causing me to think about it more carefully, I will make the future versions more utilitarian by making them a little longer.

Concur 100%.  I'd much rather have the D36 hose with a reducing whip on my boom arm and a D27 hose for portable use.  I'd suggest that its length would be best at 18" - 24".
