36 mm Hose

Only after I purchased my first TS55 and CT22 in January 2006 did I start to study all the information Festool made available in newsletters and article reprints.

Something that interested me was advice that the dust extraction of the TS55 would improve using the 36mm AS hose. The author of an article reasoned that since the TS55 would normally be used on a guide rail in a straight line and you should use the deflector even with the 27mm AS hose, the ideal situation was to practice until using the 36mm AS hose became second nature. Up to them I had only used circular saws without dust collection.

I reasoned that since I needed to get used to having both a power cord and a hose, why not get used to the 36mm? The next week I bought an OF1010, which can be used with a 27mm hose, but I found it just as easy to use the 36mm. Consequently when I added an OF2200 and OF1400 I had no problems with the 36mm hose.

I do only use 27mm hoses on my Festool sanders, where too much suction is worse than too little and when sanding random movement under control is very important. The boom arms serving our sanding work tables have 5m x 27mm AS hose. The boom for our TS cutting work table has a 5m x36mm AS hose. If we are hand routing or drilling we do so with 36mm hose.

My experience is that the MFK 700 trim routers work best with the 27mm hose. For us this works out because almost always when we are trimming with the MFK 700 we are working on a sanding work table, which as a 27mm hose anyway.

I plug the 27mm hoses on a regular basis- with the larger routers using spiral bits, and in the exhaust of the CS70 while using the Panther ripping blade. It is all about the size and shape of the exhaust. The second 27mm hose I bought was my only Festool regret, it should have been a 36mm.

trying pulling around 50ft of 2-1/2\" hose hooked up to a floor sander all day with out tripping up over it, lol

Seems this is what you want:

Btw RM = Reduziermuffe, German for reducing sleeve  :)

I find it a bit strange that many Festool tools and accessories are NAINA, as there seems to be an obvious demand for most, if not all, of them.

Maybe something that Wood_Junkie can get on his next trip to Europe  [huh]

Doh!  No more trips for a lonnng time.  I wish I'd known, would've kept an eye out for 'em.

I'm a fan and user of the 27mm whip adapter.

I did some Google research and apparently a 22mm hose used to come with the CT Mini.

Perhaps the 22mm hose also for use with the hand sanding blocks?  The HSK-A 80x130 I got has a dust port that is too small for the standard 27mm hose.  I used a step down adapter, and its ok.  But now that Alex mentions 22mm, that seems just about right.

Hi,

I am not sure the 22mm hose is available at all anymore. Yes, it used to come with the Mini. And maybe the CT11 before that?  IIRC it hose was a tapered hose. It started out (at the vac end) with a larger diameter, probably more like 27mm, and ended up 22mm at the tool end.  I guess to improve handling.

On this side of the pond it's still available: http://www.festool.co.uk/products/accessories/pages/detail.aspx?pid=456745&name=hand-sanding-blocks-d-22x3-5m-as
I've honestly never thought that this would be usefull (unless perhaps attached to a Fein Multimaster), but I guess it might be nice for sanding drywall. In particular if you use the 27mm hose with reduced power on the vac, you could switch to the smaller 22mm and turn up the power for the same suction, but get a lighter hose.

Anyone here who has actually used the 22mm hose? If so for what tools?

Gents, I have absolutely no details other than inadvertently seeing an image on the website where we download our stock photography from Germany. But, I saw what appears to be a 36mm to 27mm adapter. No price, ETA, etc. so don't even ask.  [huh] I've not even seen or heard anything from Germany announcing this addition to the product line. As soon as I have info, you'll know about it.

This looks like an adapter/ hose end used on the older mini vacs, I can't remember the number but we had a few just for the purpose of connecting up a 36mm hose to 27mm tool port. As far as the 36 to 27mm adapter I think it's a must have. We have a number of house painters that will buy a longer 36mm hose and want to go directly to the sander port or will buy a 36mm hose along with the 50mm vacuum end fitting and 50mm coupling and extend the 27mm on to that.

The Festool Hose Reducer will plug into the tool-end fitting of the D36 hose and allow one to plug a D27 (or any other size) hose into the Reducer.  It is a tight fit getting this Hose Reducer into the D36 tool-end fitting, but it can be done.  The only drawbacks with this solution are the tight fit that could possibly crack your D36 hose-end fitting (just ask Brice) and the fact that this Hose Reducer is non-antistatic and therefore eliminates that aspect.  Just saying.   [smile]

Guys,

I just recieved my adaptor from Industrialvacs.com and it is the same one that is in Shan's post! $11.50.

Sam.

Are you referring to Shane's post here?

So, you just shove this fitting into the end of the D36 tool-end fitting?  If so, sounds perfect!

Yep!  This is the 36 hose on my RO 150, just to show that.  [big grin]
