36mm hose length for Kapex?? Or 50mm hose from boom arm set.

I just got a 7m 36mm anti-static hose to be able to cut a length for my Kapex. I will be hooking it up to my new Midi. What would be an ideal length to cut it? I also purchased extra hose ends for the left over hose. Now I have the 7m and 3.5m 36mm anti-static, (2) 3.5m 27mm anti-static hoses, and the 36mm to 27mm hose reducing whip. I might sell some of the unused hose  [huh]
 
I think that the length will be determined by how far away your Midi is.  [poke]

If this going to be a dedicated setup and not moved around, put an end on the hose, attach it to your Kapex, drape the hose to your Midi.  Make sure that you move the Kapex to its bevel and miter limits and up and down position.  Mark the longest and then give yourself an extra foot or two.  That is what I would do anyway.

Yes, it will be a dedicated setup, that's why I bought the Midi. I was just seeing what worked for others, I don't want to go cutting up a $210 hose and regret it.

Let me start by saying I do not own a Mini or a Midi. In my shop two of my Kapex have dedicated CT22. I keep a pristine CT36 for use on sites, as well as my newest Kapex should that also be needed on sites.

Before the Kapex was sold in North America I had experience with them while visiting Europe. My experienced woodworking friends there are able to buy 36mm AS hose in long lengths. All had found dust extraction was better if the hose was less than 3.5m long, but many who only work on site simply used a standard 36mm AS x 3.5m hose.

My suggestion is that you give a good try with your existing 3.5m x 36mm hose. Since that will connect going straight down into your new Midi, you might be thrilled with this set-up. Your 36mm x 7m hose will be marvelous for cleaning and will be fine with TS saws and the larger routers.

Should it turn out that the 3.5m hose does not provide enough dust extraction to satisfy your taste, I suggest cutting a 2.3m length from one end of your 7m hose. This will still leave you a longer than average 36mm hose for cleaning. I use 2.3m hose from my own Kapex to the dedicated CT22. Because of the way the hose connects to the Midi, that hose could be shorter and still be flexible enough, but there is no evidence that a 36mm AS hose shorter than 2.3m will improve dust extraction from a Kapex.

I have my 3.5m 36mm hose on my boom arm right now. Before, when I used the 3.5m 36mm hose with my CT26 connected to the Kapex, I had no problems. I'm not too worried about it, I just wanted to get some thoughts and opinions from the FOG.
 
I was down in my shop and it occurs to me that I should try my 50mm hose that came with my boom arm to go from the CTMidi to the Kapex. All I need is the hose end adapter to connect to the Kapex. I could then use the 7m 36mm hose with my CT26 and boom arm, but that might be too long. Anyone done this?

Yes, a whole lot of Kapex owners have experimented with 50mm hose, using adapters at the Kapex end. I own a lot of Kapex, which are used a lot. I know many Kapex owners. Never have any of us found a hose larger than 36mm improves dust extraction of the Kapex. The downside to a larger and stiffer hose is that it adversely affects the performance of the Kapex as a precision saw. The weight and bulk of an adapter alone becomes a serious problem when the Kapex is in bevel and/or miter mode. Remember, that is why you bought a Kapex!

Improving dust extraction is a function of technique using the Kapex. Just remember that while it is marvelous to have excellent dust extraction, bottom line is the accuracy and cut quality. When deciding which sawing technique to use in a given situation, dust extraction efficiency is just one consideration.

In a previous post I mentioned that in my shop two Kapex are moved as production requires and two are permanently mounted in place. The permanently mounted Kapex have Tiger Stops as CNC flag stops. Instead of dedicated CT22, those Kapex are connected to my plant Dust Collection system using an "accelerator" which create to velocity of extraction identical to a CT22 with 2.3m of 36mm AS hose. The accelerator discharges into a 100mm duct to the DC over head trunk. Additionally, behind those two Kapex I have ordinary miter saw dust shrouds connected to the plant DC system with 100mm hose. Between the shrouds and the Kapex dust port there is very little dust to clean up. To do that clean-up I use a roving CT22 with 36mm hose and Festool cleaning attachments. That same roving CT22 is used all over my shop.

I'm not sure yet, that was my original question. It looks like 2.3m is what others are using. I think 2m would be fine for my application.
 
If you are placing the CT right under or next to the Kapex, I don't see why the shortest length possible wouldn't be the way to go. So I am thinking 5 feet.
