36mm hose question

Hello all,

I have a TS55 and an OF2200 which I've been using for years with a CTL26 and a 27mm hose. Since adding a CT-VA-20, the suction has obviously reduced a little - plus the 27mm hose is far from ideal when it comes to vacuuming the floor after work, using the standard plastic cleaning set - the slightest chip or shaving seems to block the nozzle where the hose end couples up to the plastic tube.

So I want to upgrade to a 36mm hose. Just a coupla questions before I order;

1 I'm confused by all of the available options - is part no. 204924 (D36 AS/CFR - 3.5m) the straightforward 36mm replacement for my existing 27mm?

2 Will this new hose be plug & play? i.e. will it just slip over the outside of the tool nozzles and cleaning set tubes rather than squeezing down the inside of them? Or do I also need some kind of adaptor?

Thanks in advance, your help is appreciated.

Hey again, hope you post up some more of your work, question 1 yes question 2 yup plug and play fits over dust ports,and cleaning tools. I use some small port sanders and etc. with drywall and 768135 lets me not have to switch hoses.

Hi. So you have to use reducing sleeve on smaller tools?

Hi, yes mainly sanders 1010 and df500,other than that fits over the port sleeve. guy

That's great, thanks very much. I'll keep the 27mm for a Mirka Deros and some Makita equipment anyway - just needed better dust collection on the Festools. You can actually hear the motor tone increase on the CTL/CT-VA-20 when you hook up an unplugged 27mm hose into it - the restriction must be pretty considerable. I'm sure that the increased airflow will hit the spot.

Thanks again for your help.

I'd recommend the 5 meter D36 hose. Far better for cleanup and working in bathrooms. Bluetooth is awesome along with the longer hose.

New style vac ends allow two hoses to plug together for a longer length.

Dont use that that adapter hose end if you don't want the blockages.

Not sure if you'll ever need it Butch but the trailing end of the 36mm will connect perfectly onto the extractor end of the 27mm giving you a double length hose.  You'll need reducers for the OF1010, Carvex and Rotex 90 - I don't have the larger Rotex machines as I use the Mirka AS RECOMMENDED - private joke. Willy.

Well fancy seeing you on here Willy !!!! I did actually wonder if I was the only person lame enough to have the same username everywhere I go. It’s like bumping into an old friend  [big grin]

[member=75780]woodbutcherbower[/member]  - how much does the CT-VA restrict suction? And did the 36mm hose help?

Wood Whisperer did a comparison of air speeds with the CT VA-20 with a 50mm and 27mm hose.  the CT VA-20 reduced airspeed by 18% on the 27mm hose, by 16% on the 50mm hose.

The suction loss using the CT-VA-20 is pretty well discussed on the forum, so I won’t cover old ground. To me, although it definitely exists, it’s nowhere near as bad as some reviewers claim - and ultimately, the main factor determining quality of extraction is the design of the tool it’s hooked up to. The huge number of bags I’ve saved since I bought it is more than enough compensation - I’m often emptying the bin 3 times a day.

And yes - two days in, and the 36mm hose is making a substantial difference. It’s even improved the extraction on a DeWalt 780 which is no mean feat. I’m glad I bought it.

I definitely appreciate the follow up, and certainly agree with your comments.

Whether there is suction loss or not, the bottom line is "does it still work well enough to keep using it?".  The answer from your perspective appears to be a Yes.

I tend to agree as well.  I have a CT VA-20 hooked to my OG MINI and to my CT 26 and haven't had a need to disconnect them yet.

I recently bought a 58mm hose (6m) for cleaning up in the workshop from central technology systems(uk). Attached to my CT26 and CT VA20 it's made a massive difference and will even keep up with my thicknesser. The only drawback is it will happily swallow a big enough clump of hand plane shavings to snarl up the top of the cyclone after which everything runs through to the vac bag. Probably too bulky for handheld power tool use but otherwise highly recommended.

The CT-VA can clog just as well with 36mm hose. I drilled a 55mm hole in a 300mm thick cellar wall and the CT-VA clogged on a piece of debris made by the drill. This type of drill btw;

The vac clogging is a pita when using dust extraction pieces that suck themselves onto the wall..

May I ask why you don’t use a core drill instead? I regularly drill 52mm holes through thick walls using a Hilti DD110 hooked up to a CT26 + CT-VA-20. No dust, no broken pieces, just a nice clean hole and a solid one or two piece circular masonry core. I’d be genuinely interested to know - thanks.
