3M PPS Series 2 - Fuji

Dang it looks like they DID raise the prices! Should have picked up the Midi setup with my Mini kit. Didnt realize they shared the same lids and it would have been nice to have both options for those prices.

Also, wanted to add, I got my Mini kit quickly and with everything that was supposed to be included. It was just the pre-boxed 3M setup and shipped in the 3M kit box.

[member=65062]DynaGlide[/member]  Finally got the last piece of my puzzle - the H/O cup from National Tool.

Question: the lids come with a black plastic ring to lock to the standard cup. Looks like for the H/O cup you remove this black ring first? Correct?

Thanks

Yes. That threw me for a loop too

One thing that surprised me when swapping to the Series 2.0 gun adapter on my Fuji G-XPC was the nipple between the gun and adapter was crusty inside  [eek].

I exclusively use waterborne finishes and clean the gun by running water and water/DNA. Thinking I need to remove the gun adapter to clean this nipple out in the future.

[member=4518]Mike Goetzke[/member] I for one do not like crusty nipples.

I used my Series 2 system for the first time today. I spent about 11 hours spraying some cabinets with Target EM9300. I would say it was the best looking finish I have done. With my Series 1 system I usually had to thin the Target coating a bit and needed a 1.0mm needle set to get a decent finish but today was able to spray out of the can with the 1.4mm needle set.

Can’t believe it but on my first refill I forgot to relieve the pressure in the cup before removing the gun. All I can say is don’t do this!

Heads up to those upgrading from Series 1.0 H/O system.

While working on my first job with the Series 2.0 setup I noticed:

1) The Series 1.0 and 2.0 cup liners are the same.
2) The H/O cup is the same! ( only the screw on top is different )
3) Looks like using a Dremel would allow you to mod the Series 1.0 lid into Series 2.0. Almost looks like you could mod it in a way enabling use either Series 1.0 or Series 2.0 liner lids, although, the gun adapter is different. ( potential $70 savings )

Mike

Question for all that have upgraded to the 2.0. What are the advantages? I have 5 spray guns set up with the 1.0 and am hesitant to upgrade and am hoping they are not discontinuing 1.0 supplies.

Thanks,
Bill

[member=61781]bigshaw929[/member]  Bill - watch the first video on post #6. They show 6 improvements. My Fuji gun uses a pressure assisted cup called H/O. With the H/O cup I think you only get 3 of the improvements (gun little easier to attach, much larger mesh filter area, and can stand partially used product lid side down). But, I think the larger mesh filter seemed to help the flow of the finish on my first attempt.

Good luck
Mike

Mike,
Thank you. I missed that somehow. Have you used it and think it’s worth upgrading?

Does anyone happen to know if the 3M PPS Series 2 is going to have a H/O cup that will work with Fuji?  3M lists Series 2 adapters for Fuji guns but I don’t see any H/O cups available.

Thanks

I just got the PPS 2.0 shipped to me today.  I have not shot with it yet but my experience with PPS 1.0 was very good and never saw any need to change the design.  I'm not sure there will NOT be a lot of PPS 1.0 in the future so I just changed over when my supply ran low.

I haven't seen much in the PPS Series 2 but they seem to be coming on line slowly.  About a year ago I purchased a bunch on PPS 1 stuff for my Fuji MM4 with T75G gun.  I had never sprayed paint before and was a little timid about using the PPS for my very first spray job.  I used GF Milk Paint and finished with GF High Performance.  The paint job surprised me how good it turned out.  So I'm getting ready to paint my newly built MFT/Systainer Cart and will use the Series 1 - and shoot Milk Paint again.  I'm really hoping their claims about easier cleanup match my soon to be experience.
I painted my project with my Fuji MiniMite4 and for the first time, used the PPS (series 1)  I was very pleased with my experience except for the fact that I was using a very small HO Cup with my T75G gun.  It was too small for the job I was doing.  I went thru 4 liners and lids.  I've got a larger HO cup but for some reason did not use it.  I really like the system and yes, cleanup was a lot faster.

I've had the 1.0 system for some time now. I know this is a few months old but what do you mean by going through 4 liners/cups? Maybe I'm frugal (cheap) but when I'm finished with a job I find the liners/cups clean up quite easily.
I went through liners and cups because I could not get the lid off the liner so instead of adding paint I just used another lid and liner.  I finally figured out how to remove the lid off the liner without destroying the liner.    The lids are not easy to remove but they do come off.
