Good afternoon fellow foggers! This is my first post on the FOG and what a great site. My question is has anyone used the 55" holy rail to drill shelf pin holes in an 8' tall cabinet?
Try the search function, I know there is a way, and people have done. I haven't, partly because I have the 42" Holey rail, and need to get the 55" Holey rail. But I don't want to buy another rail just yet.
I've done that and it's not a problem if you have another guide. I connect the holy 55 to a regular 55. Then I have a 110" and I can clamp both ends.
I do the top front and the bottom back then flip the rails and do the rest.
Aligning the rail is easy. Just use the sled.
Plunge the router and lock it. With the sled on the rail set the bit in an existing hole. Alignment is automatic. Use the edge stop to align the other end as you normally would. This is basically the same concept that's employed for the little plastic templates. Works very well. The other guide is there simply to clamp the opposite end.
Thanks for the responses. I did some more research and ended up moving the rail down each cabinet side twice and indexing off the last hole drilled. It took a little bit more time than simply using a longer holy rail but the results were perfect. I'm new to the Festool system and I'd have to say so far I'm very pleased with the results. Thanks again.
