A bit of a twist on a classic

I know everyone has seen a ton of Maloof inspired rockers, and in my opinion they fall into the "Hal Taylor category" or the "traditional Maloof category". So on my last two rockers I thought I would try something a bit different. I took some templates I use to make dining chairs and altered them into rockers. The lowback has the regular curved arms Maloof attached to his chairs but I went and put regular rocking chair arms on the spindle back chair. The lowback would work great for a child's chair. I think the side profile is really neat but it doesn't sit as comfortable as a highback. However, much to my surprise the spindle back chair is just as comfortable as a traditional rocker. Something that appeals to me about the spindle back is that it doesn't require as much space as a traditional rocker. It also requires less time/ lumber. Both chairs were made from tiger maple and the spindle back has walnut accents. The lowback is completely tiger maple (by a customer's request).

Beautiful work.  I really like the spindle back rocker.  Thanks so much for sharing.  Bill
