It would be nice to have a decent vise that would attach to the front of the mft3.
It would make planing stock a whole lot easier. I know I can go out and buy a veritas twin screw..
But it is really not part of the system. I prefer things that can easily be removed and attached... [embarassed]

Easiest way to mount purty near anything to the MFT is to mount it on a piece of plywood, then run a couple of bolts thru the ply.  Attach nuts that will fit in the slots on the side extrusion.  You can also slide Festool clamps into the groove and use them to hold things vertically.

Having said that, I wouldn't want to add a lot of offboard weight to the mft, nor would I want to handplane on it, just not built for that.

Post a pic of what you come up with!

My impression is that the MFT isn't really that great for planing, given that it lacks a lot of heft. Most 'real' vises are stout things made of cast iron, and would really make the thing awkward to heft and carry around.

That said, I think that if you're really looking for something that would fit that traditional woodworking kind of niche, your best bet, realistically speaking, might be to try to retrofit a modified leg vise of some kind. It might take some doing, but I think that you could use the regular festool clamps to mount the rear jaw to the bench, or bolt it on. The wooden jaws would be lighter than a traditional cast iron model, albeit a bit bulkier. But I think it would get the job done for you... if you're really looking for a vise.
