A Festool Cabinet Job

I thought I'd share some photos of a rather large cabinet job that myself and a fellow trim carp are currently involved in. This job came about after a local cab shop went out of business after a lot of $$$ changed hands. Basically, the cab shop ordered the doors and drawers and then stopped. My partner bid the job to the bank to complete the job without starting from scratch with a new cab shop. To the point you will see in the photo album we have 3 weeks of wood working and 1.5 weeks of finishing (done by others).

We just started assembly yesterday. We figure another 2.5 weeks will see the job complete. This was all built on-site using Festools and a Bosch TS and SCMS.

I'll keep adding photos to the photo album as the job progresses.

Looking good --- as a greenhorn, I always appreciate when people designate some time to show (especially with photos) how a job is accomplished.

Hey, Chuck, don't toss that custom guide rail! If you can't salvage the straight part for your own purposes, you can probably find someone, (e.g. yours truly), who is interested in a short length of guide rail.

Chuck -

Nice job.  Thank you for taking those photos and showing the production process.

Excellent work on the cabinets and the in-process shots.

This is a fine example of how the sytem approach can play out. Very nice contribution to our forum.

Ditto on the above comments. A great tutorial with nice sequence picctures.

One question. How does the edge veneering worok?

John,

The edge banding worked just fine once we got the 'hang' of the edge bander itself. It was a fairly quick learning curve. Apply, trim and sand. One thing to note is the fragile nature of the edge banded edges. You have to be very careful when handling so as not to lift an edge. DAMHIKT

Looks like a pretty big house. How many sq ft?  I like the curved cabinets.

Bill,

The house, not including the huge unfinished basement, is about 3400 ft/sq.

Great Job.

Just goes to prove that the "system" works".  Didn't see a table saw.  Great.  Keep us updated.

Chuck,
Try running a cool block plane with blade retracted to burnish and  "pull theheat out of the edging...or any other cool block - even a 2 x 4...

morning guys

more photos have been added. install of uppers and lowers is complete. we have time off until painters and counter tops are done. then we will install drawers, doors, hardware and trim. it is starting to look like something now.

Excellent progress photos Chuck -

What is the hardware you are using to assemble the cabinets?  Assume you are using glue since I see clamps.  Looks like screws and caps from some of the photos. Any Knock-down hardware?

Also are the cabinets all veneer plywood?

Thanks for sharing -
