A Festool perspective on Plantation Shutters or "(adjustable) Louvered shutters"

As you can see in the previous photo the ROTO comes with tilt rod, panel end pieces, frame fitting and interlock. It's not just the tilt rod.

Maybe you could hide one of the side-connected bars by mounting it facing the window rather than facing the room (i.e. with the pins on the outside edge of each louver side).

It took some time, but I finally got a price for the whole system.

Depending on the lenght of your shutter you can choose between 720, 900, 1080 or 1260 mm lenght. Each set consists of two rod bearings, right and left and the adjustment rod.

720: $28
900: $33
1080:$44
1260:$50

The adjustment lever (or knob 60mm) is extra and will cost another $15.

The end pieces for the louvers come in pairs and cost $0,45, you'll need one pair every 60mm

So basically one shutter with two fixxings in 1080 mm will cost you about $140!

A little update on the Plantation Shutters.

I found another manufacturer of  mechanisms for adjustable timber shutters, NACO Italy:

http://www.naco.it/english/linealegno.html

The hardware supports shutter blades sizes of 60mm to 148mm and is made of aluminum. I have requested information and prices. Maybe this system is a little cheaper than the previous one.

Following this interesting thread for a while now and have some ideas for a solution to an invisible mechanisms to operate the shutters.

not sure, if someone already considered the use a a tiny timing belt like this one:
http://www.maedler.de/Product/1643/1616/955/956.aspx  - a 9,5 meter piece is about 9€, should be enaugh for 2 big windows
the required pulley is here:
  http://www.maedler.de/Product/1643/1616/986/987.aspx - 10 pulleys are about 2

so a complete set for one window with ten shutters could be around 25€ - seems reasonable for me.

The timing belt would be running in the side frame of the shutter around pulleys, which will be sitting on each axle of the shutters.
So the movement will be collective, if one of the shutters is moved, could also be nicely controlled by a small DC gear motor.

kind regards, Mike

Almost a year later and we dont have a solution, i was in search of a festool solution rather then rocklers new shutter kit. [mad]
