I am having fun making new tools, some I have been planning on re-making for a while.

Three of the four here use the new brass blade holder. I am finding all sorts of uses for this item.

From the top ...

1. The Mk 2 version of my marking knife. Here it is with a v-blade, which is designed for transferring dovetails Tails to Pins. It is 0.5mm thick and will fit inside a single kerf Tail. Handle in Jarrah, shaped to be held with a pencil grip.

2. Kerfing chisel. This is used to deepen the diagonal-sawn kerf of half-blind Pins, which makes waste removal easier. Previously, the blade was 25mm wide, and now it is 10mm - one only takes small bites, and a wider blade is unnecessary. The blade is also 0.5mm thick, which fits the thinner dovetail saw kerfs. The handle is WA Sheoak, and shaped to take a mallet blow.

3. Scratch awl in HSS with Jarrah handle. This is shaped to be held in the palm to push, but also to be tapped with a mallet. Removing the blade make it easy to sharpen, spinning in a drill against sandpaper.

4. Burnisher for card scraper. The rod is a thin 5mm in polished carbide. Carbide is never going to wear, is hard enough to turn all card scraper steels, and is self-lubricating (so will not gall the steel, as may be done by M2 or O1). The handle is WA Sheoah, long and thin for balance.

Like CRG...I'd also have a use for all of them.

Derek, do you use a small slitting saw on the blade holder for the marking knife & kerning chisel?

I really like the idea of using carbide rod for the burnisher.
