A hint when storing 150mm abrasives in the their Systainers ...

I finally found a few minutes to do some sorting and tidying today. I have a long way to go, but I thought I'd start by organising my abrasives. I had ~40 boxes and 8 empty abrasive systainers [embarassed]

What I found when I opened the finer grit 150's was annoying ... all of the sheets were curling and were incredibly hard to get back into an even stack to fit into the systainers properly. After getting very frustrated trying to align the disks, I decided to use a pencil and thread the disks onto the pencil by their centre hole. That simple trick made my life a lot easier!!!

I now have 8 systainers full of abrasives and a sys5 with the odd stuff, belts, etc. I'll probably get another large systainer for all the hand sanding stuff.

I am starting to question my sanity a little - staring at a stack of 8 systainers full of abrasives, the overflow sys5 plus 2 SURFIX systainers. All of this stuff would probably fit in 3 or 4 reasonable size drawers [eek]

(tear lid off cardboard box, put in drawer - Doh)

Good tip, thanks.

I'm not quite as bad as you, but I do have 4 systainers and two large drawers devoted to the storage of abrasives and pads.

On thing that I have found that helps keep the sandpaper from curling is insert custom-made wooden blocks into gaps.  Here is an example of what I am talking about:

Great tips Kev & Frank!

I too have a few abrasives systainers, since they don't leave my shop I believe there are better, more efficient ways to store them.

I actually took a bunch of the disks that would not be used for a while (I bought tons of paper when I got my Rotex 150) and stuck them and a piece of cardboard in a bag and vacuum sealed them.   I have paper in a systainer in each bags that are thick enough to prevent the curling.  Heck, I even vacuum sealed a bunch of dominos.

Another great idea -- everyone is on their game today!  [thumbs up]

ron. is there suposed to be a vid.

i store my 150mm disks in a sys as well. i made an insert to store the disks vertically. i hated the plastic insert. it stored very little.
i probably have 200-300 disks in there i think

I think that Darcy even stores his boxes in a big Systainer.
