Hey Kev,

Good point, but the overwhelming customer choices are the Super- Pack pictured (2 pair of dogs and 1 pair of rail dogs) or simply just  2 pairs of dogs.

I bet if you put more cutout places in the box, you'd sell more dogs!  Or more clamps.  Or other accessories!

Build it and they will come, Bob!

Any chance of a "Dog Dock" that attaches to the MFT in a way that doesn't impact any of the clamp slots ... I'd jump at a nice lump of anodised aluminium with a dozen holes in it that clamps in under the front MFT rail, just out of the way of a vertical board.

(yeh, I could make my own of out of wood or something acrylic ... but where's then fun in that?)

[big grin]

Another good point, Neil, but the picture is making the systainer look bigger than the Systainer Mini it is. At best on the next run, we can add 2 more spaces, after that, I'm guessing the rigidity of the foam may suffer.

Well, good point number 3 tonight.

Good ideas here.  I would buy one if it was half the price without the dogs and had about 6 or 8 holes for the shorter dogs.  No need for short dogs to lay on their side is there?

Re. Dog Dock - You could probably use the label holders on the front of the mini systainer and a 3D printer to make something that would fit in the t-track on the side of an MFT.  Similar to the way the strap attaches to the full size systainers.

It's a gag gift.

A gag gift?  [huh]

Not sure that makes sense. Seems a pretty useful storage solution for the right situation to me.

In any case I like to see ideas coming to fruition and being marketed for real.  [thumbs up]

A padded box without the dogs?  If it had the dogs, that's one thing, then it's a nice, useful gift with a high end presentation.  But to present a box with padding for some aluminum utility parts seems odd to me.  About the only use I can see for it is a wife spitefully giving her husband some special "jewelry box" for his "treasured Festool parts".  Hence, it becomes a "gag" gift.

I don't agree with that either, Festool sella.s a systainer for router bits and another for sanding discs. It's the same idea if you think about it. Alas, I don't have any qwas dogs but it sure would be useful. As it stands now I use a Sys1 for my bench dogs already and it's pretty slick next to my MFT.

Of course Bob sells Qwas dogs too so ................................

The reason that this item does not come with any dogs is simple. The Qwas dogs/Qwas rail dogs have been around for quite a long time. Many who might consider this doghouse already have the Qwas products. Also, there are many different configurations available of the Qwas products; single pairs, 2 pairs, Super-pack; etc.  New customers can pick and choose which products they want to purchase.

Yeah. I know. And so does my wallet! I love those long bar ones too. What a great plane stop.

Bob - I was thinking you could cut the shorter dog holes vertically - so they drop in like on the router bit sustainer.  I probably have 8-10 pairs of dogs that i have accumulated and use.  One set are the longer rail dogs, the rest are shorter.  If you made the holes with cut but NOT removed foam that was perhaps still held on the bottom 1/4" a customer could choose how many foam holes to pluck for the storage of their dog collection.

I like the idea.  Just trying to suggest flexibility plus storage density for a bigger collection.  I also liked the idea of a CNC cut piece of aluminum that could be attached to the side of the MFT for storage and quick access.

Thanks for bringing this to market!

A long time back I made this one, might be what you're looking for. I did consider aluminum but too time consuming for me to make back then.

I'm assuming you use cheap bits and you don't mind the carbide edges being chipped.  But if you have decent, expensive bits, then the Festool router bit Systainer is probably a good idea, as the bits are held securely.  I get your point on the sandpaper Systainer.

I still think the empty box is best as a gag gift for storing "Festool jewelry".

Ouch! Cheap bits?! That hurts. I mean... you don't by a Mercedes and put a cheap aftermarket radio in it. Do you?

I don't actually have the router bit systainer but based on those comments would it not be the same to consider the router bit systainer or the sandpaper systainers as "gag gifts" also? Hers a for instance....My wife "Hey Honey! Happy birthday! I bought you a systainer to put your expensive qwas dogs in!"  Me, the dutiful, courageous handsome husband "Gee whiz sweetie cakes! What a thoughtful gift!".

I stand by my opinion, this is a great idea Bob!

Hey Neil,

Good idea about the vertical holes. Welcome - and thanks.
