A Plea

I will only list my location if you promise NEVER to show-up at my door wearing that dead animal hat thingy.

I was surprised that my location was not visible, since I had included it in my profile.

Several others have mentioned this, but not very emphatically: There are (at least) three ways to do this.

1. If you would like people to be able to find out where you live (by visiting your profile), then you list your city, state, country, whatever, in LOCATION.

2. If you want this to appear to the left of the messages you post, it must be entered into the "PERSONAL TEXT" section of your profile. This is towards the top, where you would insert a picture.

3. You can always include your location in your SIGNATURE, which appears at the bottom of each message.

I just added mine to the 'personal text', so it should be visible in this message.

Finally, I do realize that some might have reservations about advertising their location due to potential 'sticky fingers' nearby. My preference, however, would be to see this in every post (personal text). We would get better acquainted with each other that way, and I'd love to make connections with anyone else in the Portland metro area.

P.S.  Aha! Yes, there it is!

Thanks Iggy, I had my location but it was not showing up.  It is fixed now.

Well, Per, since you asked,... ah, never mind!

P.S. This would have been a lot more pertinent if I had read iggy's post and made sure that my location was listed as I thought it was, Dohh!

I'm glad people are jumping on this.  Thanks for bringing it up, Per.

One point--with so many members from different countries, you might want to make sure that your location has some chance of making sense to them.

I think we should all include the country.

I think it's easier for others to understand if we don't use postal abbreviations:  CA could be either Canada or California.  Anyone outside the US know which state MN is?  And where's YT?  Lancs? NSW?

You can still be as vague as you want, but it will be equally vague to all FOG members.

Hi,

Well now , I just got done taking mine out a couple weeks ago.  I guess I can put it back with a less specific area.  Not like someone trying to find me won't be able to it anyway if they want.  :-\

Hi merklebob, you can not link like that to your own profile setting. See if you can fix it another way.

Folks,

There are a bunch of Members of this Forum who do not

list their location. You may think this is unimportant, but it sure

helps when giving suggestions.

I know, big scary internet, privacy concerns and all that,

but whats wrong with say, right side of Canada? Bottom of her Majesty's Island?

Utah?

Really, all woodworking is regional, so are methods of construction,

that is until the advent of the internet, which has greatly improved some off

my techniques.

A general location would go a great way in clearing things up.

Matt, feel free to move this to a more appropriate spot if you must.

Come on guys/gals go fix your profiles.

Thank you

Per,

You may have noted that many people have responded to your request to add a location. I have. But some have presumably only updated their profiles under the heading 'Location' and NOT under 'Personal Text'. What this means is that if you delve into the persons profile you'll find where they're from. Most of us however have added where we're from under the 'Personal Text' heading and this allows people to see where we're from easily. It's an easy mistake and easy to remedy. I hope this explanation will assist folk who think they have responded to your call........but haven't.

Example from this page: mitch dugo, greg mann, richard.selwyn, petiegolfer and others.

Larry

PS I think you made a great observation in calling for people to do this.....knowing the rough location of a poster helps us to understand that posters idiosyncrasies.

WT...thanks
