It's just not the same.

I have a DW flashlight like you can see in the background of one of the pics above and I prefer that model a lot over the Protool model.

Maybe the LED's are of a lower quality, or the lens has some dispersing affect to the light.  Also something to consider is that the specs say it'll work with batteries from 10.8 to 18 volts, so maybe you would need the 18 volt battery to shine a brighter overall beam.  Typically from the lights I've seen, LED is more directional and shorter in distance, incandescent covers more distance with a wider beam, keeping in mind that lens and reflector also have an affect on the beam.  I like the Makita 18 volt fluorescent / incandescent combo flashlight the best so far.  I like fluorescent most of the time for wide area, "even" lighting.

Warner, sorry to hear you still have Maglites. I stopped buying those head knockers after I bought my first Streamlight in July of 2000. I still use that light as my primary flashlight every day.
For those of you looking for a reliable flashlight that will blow up an attic or basement, consider the Streamlight E flood litebox. I use this light a lot and it rocks. The light is a bit heavy but it's worth it. The long battery life, rotating head, and massive output make it extremely useful. I go into a lot of boarded buildings. Comes with a house and car charger for about $142, well worth it. The Fire vulcan model is extremely light but puts out a spot beam.

I use the Petzl Myo Head XP Torch.  Its really small and its proper bright and shines a very bright beam and deflector for just a glow so it just lights the room up. The batteries last ages and if you dont think its bright enough you can hold the BOOST button for extra brightness but you can only do that for a bit.

I've had a Streamlight in the past and I've got a few SureFire lights so I've got no use for the old head knockers....
