A question for the cabinet & built-in makers

I have a quick question for the cabinet guys.  I cannot stand self adhesive bumpers when i build cabinets that have overlay doors.  I had some of these http://www.cabinetmart.com/Drill-in-Door-Bumpers.1051 laying around and I prefer these 100x over self adhesive bumpers.  I have recently run across these from fast cap http://www.mcfeelys.com/product/FSC-9020/FastCap-Euro-Door-Stops.  I'm curious if these can be used for overlay doors mounted to the face frame.

I'm curious what you all are using in this type of situation?

I have been using the silicone self adhesive bumpers for close to 20 years. I have never had a complaint about them from a customer.

The Fast Cap stops are for inset doors. They are made from a hard material & the sides have a ridge around them. I do not see how they would work for overlay doors.

Chris, thank you for your input!  I have seen so many self adhesive bumpers fall off or lose adhesion. A lot of those are in the kitchens that I install...they are probably using lower cost bumpers. I have also seen similar issues on my own pieces...which is why I started to use the 5mm press in style.

Regarding the FastCap, I do realize they're for euro style cabinets...but the same idea can be used on overlay if mounted anywhere on the face frame. I've installed them on some euro installs and I like the eccentric cam & considered that two could work on an overlay cabinet!

Hey Bob,

On my average install I have no less than a 1/2 dozen or so of the self-stick ones that have fallen off in transit and usually do not appear until sweep-up. I usually just buy 100 pc. sheet from the borg to use as replacements.

Those fastcaps from your link look like they could/would be installed to the face frame as you would a magnetic catch and should work fine with an overlay door (or as shown for an inset door).

One method I've seen and think is incredibly cool is the use of rare earth magnets like this one below from mcmaster Carr (build your own)

Mount one to top of door flush, mount the other to cabinet carcass and voila.  Really only useful in inset cabinets though...Premier Custom Built uses this method (and your press in bumper too).

That being said, I use the adhesive ones all the time.  It does seem that they rub off during transit to the jobsite, so like Harry, I always have them on hand to replace them.

Those look a lot like the one that Kraftmaid cabinets uses and some don't stay put inside.Sometime i open a door and the bumper is stocked on the FF.
For replacment i use the stick-on.

I use the drill in style. The adhesive ones do fall off. One of my customers told me her daughter was picking off the adhesive bumpers & eating them  [eek] The drill in bumpers are more work but they stay put. I get mine from Hafele hardware.

I have been using 3m self adhesive bumpers. They seem to stick well. I have not had a customer contact me about them, but ...............  I really don't know then I guess.

However I usually end up putting the bumpers on , on-site after I install.  I make sure I  touch the adhesive side only along a very itty bit of the edge when I peel it off the sheet.  And then press really hard, and hold for a few seconds.

Those drill ins look like a good way to go though.

I think I'll be ordering up some of the Hafele press in bumpers.  The press in bumpers I've been using are the Kraftmaid bumpers that I received a bunch from my box cabinet supplier to try out! 

For those of you that do use the self adhesive bumpers, where do you get yours from?
