It's a good idea, but I wonder whether it puts too much stress on the cutter because it is only cutting wood on one side? Maybe it would be better to clamp a wooden block of the same thickness as your jig to the wood that is being mortised, and cut a regular mortise?

Richard.
and I think the problem is solved.
I think that you must have had a Polish father  ;) BTW this a compliment not insult.
The reason is that your inventiveness and ability to produce useful jigs etc. is one I have seen only once before by a great guy (sadly dead now) called Niki from Poland

For those who may have missed them here are some http://festoolownersgroup.com/other-tools-accessories/a-source-of-inspiration-in-making-what-which-you-don't-have-or-can't-afford/
And if you find those interesting the mother load is here http://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21712&highlight=wonderful+niki

Great work Rembo, your an old world craftsman with some modern day tools and a very imaginative skill for fixture design.  I love your work and I can't imagine what you could build if you had a fully outfitted shop like mine.  Keep up the great postings!
