Accidental Styrofoam

I think I've discovered Styrofoam...  [scratch chin]


Always assumed brands of CA glues and accelerators were interchangeable, apparently not.

Or is it “minting” styrofoam?

Oh. Didn't know the accelerator is specific to certain CA glue.

It must not be a problem with all of them. I have been using Star-Bond glue with MITREAPEL activator since the last time the company ordered it for me. I use the medium clear and the medium brown with not issue.

All I can say is that I became a big fan of the 2-P10 stuff the first time I used it. I thought it was all the same, too. The 2-P10 definitely tacks better and isn't as brittle as Stik-Fast or StarBond.

The reaction surprised me. I've been using Gluemasters medium from Amazon with the 2P10 activator with no problems.

It's probably worth doing some research to figure out. The reaction was just too cool not to share, & I was curious if this was widely known and I'd just never realized it.

I wonder if it isn’t just the result of the unusual ratio of accelerator to glue. Usually you only use a brief spritze of accelerator but in this case the ratio was about 1:1.

Might be, I haven't used the thin glue before, and it happened first when I flooded/pooled a small amount into a cracked plastic dingus I was repairing.

I'll try it again with a small amount of both and see what happens. For science.
