Adapter For Using Compact Routers With The Festool LR32 Guide

Bob, my opinion is you don't need to include the centering mandrel, based on the theory taht anyone able to sue this already ahs the LR32 set and will need to acquire an 8mm collet anyway to use the boring bit.

Without the mandrel everything should pack into a flat rate padded envelope, no idea what they cost relative to other options, but at least the cost is fixed.

Yes, I had thought that too from the beginning. If I didn't have the centering guide it would fit in an envelope and maybe cost less to ship. Plus it might move faster through the system compared to a box.

I have an adapter for the Makita ready but waiting until Monday to be able to test it out. I have the Makita RT0701C but with the fixed base, so I ordered the plunge base to be able to check my CAD work and try it out to see if I can improve anything.

The rest of today and tomorrow I am looking for a plunge lock solution. I have a couple ideas to try out that I will model first in Fusion or SketchUp Pro then print if they look promising and take it from there.

The DeWalt is a spring-loaded to lock when you release the lever. You have to apply pressure to unlock the plunge action. That means for repetitive boring you need to keep the lever down or find a way to lock it in the open or released position, or remove it as Matt did.

My PC690 plunge base and the Milwaukee 5616-20 plunge base operate in the same manner.

The DW618 is just the opposite. It functions just like the Makita compact, where the released position of the lever was unlocked. I liked the dust collection through the column and the general function but that reversed lock was always a pain.

Well my first idea on the plunge lever works but I want to refine it a bit more.

Always something to be learned from actually using a thing for its intended
purpose that you can't fully 'see' on the drawing board. Even in an animated
model.

I have a version for the Makita 196094-2 Compact Router Plunge Base ready
and it should be available this coming Monday. I just need to take some time
over the weekend to verify the fit and tweak the print parameters.

OK, I'll keep an eye out for your post after you test the fit. I have the 196094-2 plunge base for the Makita cordless router (also have a 1010 and 1400 so look forward to comparing their use with the LR32.

Bob, let me know when you come up with a "fix" for the plunge lever handle. I will be interested.

It's almost ready, probably later this week.

The Makita adapter is looking good. Should have a couple ready tomorrow afternoon.

Are the Makita version for sale yet? If so, how do I get one?

Yes, they are available now. Information is in the top post of this thread.
Same price as the DeWalt kit. Comes with the same accessories.
https://www.festoolownersgroup.com/...h-the-festool-lr32-guide/msg663629/#msg663629

The kit includes the following 3D printed parts:

(1) Adapter base for either the DeWalt DCW600b/611 routers or the Makita RT0701c/XTR01Z routers.
(2) M6 Knobs to lock the adapter down on the LR32 base
(the Festool knobs will not work)
(1) Pin Lock which can be used to hold the LR32 pin in the
raised position. This lets you use the router for dados
or other tasks and not be limited to drilling holes at
    32mm increments.

You can order using PayPal here:
http://cordlessworkshop.net/cordless-router-adapter-for-use-with-the-festool-lr32-system.shtml

Adapters for other routers should be possible depending on
the location of mounting holes. Please inquire if you have
a router other than the DeWalt DCW600b or Makita RT0701c.

If you have questions please email me.

I used Bob's new purchasing site this morning and it work's perfectly.  Great job Bob.

Shipping prices are crazy high and take forever.

When I sent Dave Stanton a LR32 Adapter for his DW611 a few months back it took 28 days to reach him and the cost was almost as much as the adapter sells for. This in affect nearly doubled the price to those in Australia.

Since Dave was kind enough to feature my LR32 Adapter and Plunge Lockout kits on his weekly Dave Stanton Live! YouTube channel last week I have received a few requests from people in Australia. But the price of shipping turns them off I think.

So I am making arrangements to have the kits produced there and hope to be able to announce their availability soon.

I saw that Dave Stanton episode. Very cool, but my first thought was, "that's great, but I hope it doesn't overwhelm Bob." Sucks about the shipping, but it seems like the somewhat of a franchise/subcontractor type situation is a perfect work-around.

If there is interest I will develop a version for the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Cordless router and plunge base.

To do that would require me to purchase the kit so I could test and also see how the plunge lock works to determine if I it could use a plunge lockout kit like I made for the DeWalt. I'm not going to spend $300+ for the kit if there is no interest though as I do not need another router. I have two cordless routers now plus at least 6 others so I am heavy on routers.

If someone was on the fence and thinking about the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Router I would be willing to sell it to you (along with the LR32 Adapter Kit thrown in for free) after I complete testing. Email me and we can work out the details. If there's more than one person responding it will go to the first email received.

Good news!

I've made arrangements for anyone in OZ who may want an LR32 Adapter Kit to
purchase them locally and avoid the delay and cost of shipping from the US.

Send me your contact info and I will forward to them.

Once that happens I am out of the picture and it's all between you and Dave.

But I will offer support if needed and answer any questions concerning use or installation.

Anyone in OZ who is looking for the LR32 Adapter Kit for the DeWalt or Makita
compact routers or for the Plunge Lockout kit for the DeWalt you can get in
touch with Dave Stanton. He has agreed to offer the kits in his country.

You'll need to work out pricing with Dave.

For anyone who purchased the DeWalt Plunge Lockout Kit before 6/25/2022.
If you are having problems with it, please email me.

I had one person tell me their spring seemed weak and I was able to get them
fixed up.
