Adapter to connect Festool Ro 150 sander to 35mm dust extractor

I have an existing Bosche dust extractor system that uses a standard 35mm hose.  How can I connect my new Festool RO150 sander to this hose?  Do you have an adapter or can you recommend one?  This information seems to be very difficult to find.

There appears to be a few variations of 35mm hoses for Bosch vacuums.  The 35mm hose with the VX120 power tool adapter should work with the RO150.  If the VX120 power tool adapter is too loose, then try the Fein tool adapter.

I don't have one of the newer Bosch hoses but the 35 mm ones, but the ones  I have all have a tool connection end that fits the the Festool tool port.

While we do not have an adapter per se that works specifically with their fitting -- and we don’t have one of their models here to confirm -- generally speaking a generic step adapter commonly available might work.  Many of them are tapered with multiple steps and are cut-to-fit.  Otherwise you could consider purchasing a Festool hose (27 mm recommended) and it will likely fit into the receiver of the Bosch unit, since that is a fairly common diameter for those instances.  In this case a non-antistatic hose (452877) would do the trick.  Again, we don’t have one here to confirm, so maybe another member can confirm this for fit.

You may ask why we would recommend a 27 mm hose.  Basically, when sanding, a smaller diameter hose is more flexible and less cumbersome to work with.  Also, the finer dusts of sanding don’t require the larger diameter hose that is generally used for clean-up tasks or extracting from tools and machines that produce larger dust chips (like planers, routers, etc).  This is one of the reasons why the 27mm is a standard diameter that is supplied with our dust extractors.  It works well for nearly every tool, and especially for sanders.

@TylerC  I'm not sure if the Bosch extractors have variable suction.  The VX120 tool coupling provides a port the is open to the atmosphere to reduce suction at the tool.

Good morning!  I use a lot of Bosch 35mm vac tubing.  You can remove the tool end from the Bosch - it is just a friction fit, and replace with the Festool Anti-Static Reducing Sleeve for D 36 mm Suction Hose, p/n 487 721, and the get Bob Marino's Hose Adapter to connect 35 mm tool end to 27 mm tool end short hose which will the fit your sanders, Domino, etc.  The p/n from Bob is HOSEADAPTER, and costs ~ $50 US.  The Festool part is ~$25 US + shipping. 

Or, you can make up your own; the Festool D 27 mm Antistatic Reducing Sleeve, p/n 487 071 may fit inside the D36 mm Reducing sleeve - don't know for sure, never tried it - this would remove the need for the HOSEADAPTOR.  Keep in mind when buying Festool parts, they generally are not refundable.

[member=19075]DrD[/member] - this is the fitting on the vac005 hose that lots of folks around here scored for $20 or less a few months ago.  Are you saying it doesn't work with the domino ?  I have this hose/fitting on a PC vac from ten yrs ago and it works fine with my TS55's and sanders. Haven't tried with domino though.

I also have a Festool 36mm hose and the 36/27 adapter and I can tell you that setup on a palm sander is royal PIA. Not usable in my opinion.  In addition to Tyler's comment about the larger hose being more cumbersome (it is) ; the addition of the adapter and its length put the balance point of the sander waaaaay out away from the workpiece. 

If you must use a 35/36mm hose get the Bosch 024 end so that you don't have the xtra length and expense to deal with.  For me , the 35/36 is only used for planers, cleanup and ripping solid wood. Things all likely to have large chips, strands or other large debris that might clog a smaller hose. Otherwise the 27mm hose is a better choice.  Along the lines of smaller hoses for sanding - it might interest some that Bosch has 19mm diameter hose for that.  Might be useful for a dedicated sanding station, but not much else.

Been using Bosch VAC005s for multiple applications for some time now.  I replaced all Bosch fittings with Festool 35 mm fittings to use the 35 mm hoses with Kapex, Workshop Vac tools, extending hose length, and generally create more suction, and never paid any attention to the Bosch fittings.

Just went out to spare parts bin & pulled what I believe is an old Bosch tool-end fitting that came from one of my VAC005 hoses.  That Bosch fitting looks like it will fit my DF 500, and other tools designed for 27 mm hoses; whereas the Bosch hoses with the Festool 35 mm fittings require the HOSEADAPTOR.
