advice needed on best drill driver to go for ?

I saw mentioned in another thread a new festool hex bit holder BHM-65,this looks like it would make a centrotec chuck equivalent to the Metabo/Mafell hex bit chucks? Could be wrong but looks like it is designed to hold longer bits more securely?

Hi!

What kind of bits do you use/have? I mean, when it comes to Hex bits in general there is a large variety, and I guess it's pretty safe to say that most of us here are talking about the common 1/4" (which relates to 6.35 -> 6.4mm) hex bit - so any bit (no matter if it's a screwdriver, drill, countersink or *whatever*-bit) within this dimensions will generally fit the Festool bitholder. We also talked about and agreed on earlier that especially using drill/countersink bits in the bitholder is not a great idea and shouldn't be done for the reason of wobble and lacking of preciseness.

So if you use common 1/4" /6.4mm /C6.3 hex bits (shown here with screwdriver bits: a Snap-On Bit and a Festool Bit + Festool BH60 Bitholder) it works like a charm.

However, like I mentioned earlier there is a large variety, so if you happen to have: 3mm/A3, 4mm/C4, 5/16" /C8, 5.5mm/A5.5 or 7/16" /E11.2 type hex bits they will obviously not fit the BH60 bitholder.

Kind regards,
Oliver

It's the same for the quick-change bitholder you pictured above - if the dimensions are correct, it works like a charm.

Festool bit holder does take hex bits any hex bits

I wished I believed you... But I just tried, and all my 1/4" bits are bigger than 6-mm. [embarassed]
None of the 1/4" bits... fit into the green sleeved price that is displayed on my A10M picture above.
None of the 1/4" bits... fit into the screw driver type Festool handle in the Centrotec box.

What?

Are you kidding,right?

My centrotec bit holders, BHS 65 with Collet,CENTROTEC BIT HOLDER and CENTROTEC HAND DRIVER ALL fits perfectly,ALL my bits,1/4" no matter if it's a screwdriver, drill, countersink or whatever bit....... -  ALL fit PERFECTLY !

I agree with six-point socket, all works absolutely great with Centrotec bit holder.

NO NEED in additional Hex Chuck to the Centrotec system.

Centrotec combine it all,centrotec bits/drills and also everything else,hex bits,screwdriver bits,1/4" bits,from any company/brand....ALL works just AMAZING!

The best system!

Bravo!

I suspect there may be a facetious mickey-taking part to Holmz's post that is being missed by those stating it'll work fine.

I am not kidding.
The green lipped quick release in the photo above will NOT take the 1/4"
And also the hand screw driver will NOT take the 1/4".

However:
I dug down in the Centrotec systainer and the extension adapter indeed works.  [embarassed]
I also have a Wira that fits the drill and takes them.

I have no problem using the extension, so that is good to now know. But I would really only need it with a FT drill.

When I need to get close because I have no room, then I just go straight into the end of the A10M. I think that there is a little magnet in the bottom, but the bits do not stay in too well if they are engaged in a screw or allen bolt. But it is a pretty small package and fits in the toight spots.

[member=45057]aas[/member]  I am not sure sure it is the best driver, but it is a brilliant drill, and a good driver... All my friends like the panasonic for screws, and the bump/bump of the impact makes some sense.

Never seen 1/4" which didn't fit Centrotec hand drive and Centrotec  Bit Adapter.

Never!

Where did you find it?

If I was not tied into any other battery system, personally I would go for the PDC after seeing it demo'd yesterday.

[member=8111]BeardMan[/member] - I ordered it from a place in the UK, and shipped to a friends. He posted it to me.

I just stumbled out and tried it again.
The 1/4" DOES fit the hand 'screwdriver'.
Bit they do NOT fit the green sleeved job that fits on the chuck which is in the picture from yesterday.

Do you mean this chuck? It's not supposed to take 1/4'' bits, only centrotec bits.

[attachimg=1]

You put 1/4'' bits in the bitholder below and then the bitholder in the chuck pictured above.

It also shows well to the non-initiated why centrotec was made, not to annoy regular hex users but it allows to keep the drill short and not add any length when using drill bits.
When you look at what the other brands above now make it becomes clear, their hex chuck is basically a chuck with a fixed hex holder added to it. The bits and drills you use on that are only held on a short lenght by the hex holder, which is in it's turn held by the adapter on the drill shaft. It doubles the room for error and play and makes the combo longer.
With the small centrotec chuck, the drills, bits or bit holders go directly into the drill shaft. No length is added, and the chuck grabs the bits further up so it is much more stable.

To me the old hex system has a design error where the reduction onto which the holders grab, is too close to the rear. It's not adapted for a smart/stable chuck system.

Yes the top one.
And yes I found the extension works.

get anything different than Festool and it will cost you a looooot more than Festool. It is better to realize it before than after you pay.

Really? I have no idea why you would think that is the case.
