Almost done with Sketchup T-Loc models, it's been a pain...

This is extremely nice work, Brice. Great attention to detail.

Working with organic shapes in SketchUp is one of the things I find most difficult due to the lack of built-in tools for this purpose. Especially drawing staircases with organic shapes has been a challenge. There are free plug-ins available for bézier curves etc. but I haven't tried them yet.

Nice one Brice!

I've added them to the Festool Power Tools Collection. I really should get around to putting some actual tools on there though, not just accessories!

BTW - whilst I was doing that, I saw a model of a Mini-Systainer on there. I thought to myself, "ooh, that's new - wonder who did that?". Turns out it was me. I honestly don't remember doing it... [blink]

I'll do the T'Loc Mini when I get my hands on one!

Really nice work Brice.

I downloaded the T-locs and for some reason, I get a band of pink around several faces in the tops as well as the T-loc latch.  That's an indicator to 'reverse faces' in Sketchup.  Curious if you download them if they come in like they look in the preview on 3D warehouse?  Very strange.

Trying to clean them up now and there are LOTS of faces.  You really put a lot of time into these.  Very impressed with the level of detail.

Thanks -

Neil

Neil, as I said there was a lot of unforeseen problems with screwed up geometry throughout the model.  I spent a lot time cleaning up some of the problems but I know there are still some in there.  I'm not getting reversed faces in the original.  I haven't downloaded the model from the warehouse so I don't know what you guys might be getting.

I'll reinstall sketchup and remove the preferences files and see if it fixes the issue.

Again, nice job!

OK - I got to the bottom of the problem I was experiencing...

I removed and re-installed Sketchup, preferences, etc.  Re-downloaded the model from the warehouse and discovered it was still showing the reversed faces.  I turned on shaded rather than monochrome and it cleaned it up.  Menu is > View > Face Style > Shaded

In the course of chasing this down, I found a really nice Ruby script which will orient front faces as you paint over them.  I downloaded it and cleaned up the faces I saw reversed and it's a great addition to Sketchup for any of you that often get reversed faces.  Install it and restart Sketchup and then select the tool in the Plugins menu

You can learn more about the script that you download and drop into the plugins folder for Sketchup here:  http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13380

Downloading requires registration, but it's fast and free.  Plus this is a great resource for getting questions answered on Sketchup.

Attached is the screen cap of the reversed faces.  I can upload the cleaned up model if others want it.

Thanks again Brice!  This was a LOT of time commitment on your part!  Love the pivots and sectionals for considering interior options as well.
