Great idea!  Once you have a domino, new uses keep popping up!

 In this case I chose the center (this isn't always the case).  

I once did a blanket chest, where I glued the front, allowing movement to drift to the back. the joint had vertical pegs dropping through the joint.

The only place I can see any possiable flaw is the missing vertical. there is only one place where the BB is actually fixed to the top, that being the center. the dominos will prevent warp, but (while unlikely) there is still a chance of seperation of the BB from the top at the ends. Just a thought, I do like you're design.
