antistatic motor blow out

Hi,
I am in the middle of building something and I'm using my Kreg pocket hole maker to drill some pocket holes. I went to hook my CT26 to the vacuum attachment and see it's the same size as the hose that came with my CT, so it won't fit over it. I was at a supplier yesterday and asked about finding an adapter. I was told that I shouldn't do this. They said they had a customer who used a Festool vac with another tool and because the adapter wasn't antistatic, it blew his motor. They also said Festool wouldn't cover the problem and didn't use the warranty. So she said that I shouldn't use that, but drill the holes and then vacuum up the sawdust afterwards.
Well, that makes a mess but begs the question, if this is true that you shouldn't use anything that's not 'antistatic', then why does Festool sell non-antistatic hoses?
Is there a way to make this work? The outside dia. of the Kreg piece is 3.5cm, the inside dia. is 3cm. The Festool hose is 3.5 on the outside. Is there a coupler or adapter I can use, or is this just not a good idea?
The guy they told me about used some couplers after blowing his first motor and apparently blew another one. That's how they discovered that it all needs to be antistatic. I'm not sure how this all works with the static etc. My old shop vac never had static issues so I don't see what the deal is, but I certainly don't want to risk damaging my Festool vac, especially if the warranty would be no good.
What can I do here so I can finish this without a big mess?
thanks.

I'm starting to detect some mass hysteria about the danger of anti-static electricity.

No, you don't have to worry. Use your Kreg jig as much as you want.

What good is a vac if it can't be used with 3rd party products?

I hooked my Festool hose to my Kreg jig via a Fein 921072K13 Step Adaptor , about 7 bucks on Amazon, works great.

FogHat,

Please note that I do not speak for Festool.  I don't think you should have any problem using the CT with your Kreg jig. I have been using a CT33 with Anti-Static hose connected to my Kreg jig for years. I suspect there is currently a lot of partial information floating around in the tool world regarding the static issues and Festool vacs.

I used the double elbow so that the hose was lower and less prone to be in the way when swapping pieces in the jig.

I experienced static shock at my corded drill when using it to drill pocket holes with the Kreg jig.  But, that was the day I also installed my cyclone which interrupted the path to ground.  I stripped the insulation off the ends of some wire and shoved the ends between the hose and fitting which eliminated the problem.  The next day I performed a more permanent fix using copper tape, etc.

Bottom line, I suspect the person that they were talking about also had a cyclone or separator in use with their CT and hadn't taken the proper measures to deal with the static charge that can and will build up in these aftermarket devices.  Static charge is generated in both the hoses and the cyclones, and any break in that path to ground will allow that static to build up which then can cause an issue at the electronics within the extractor and/or where you are holding onto the tool.

Another possible mistake is to operate your CT with it plugged into an outlet that is not properly grounded.

Thanks, guys, I appreciate it.
I'll get one of the adapters you mentioned.
Man, this forum is great for quick answers.
cheers! [smile]

I find it interesting that I run my CT36, in dry North Texas, with a non-antistatic hose and haven't had any issues.
Using the Bosch 5m x 36 mm hose.

Of course I probably just cursed myself.
