Anyone know of a good way to hook up a TS 55 to a Regular Wet Dry vac?

I recently purchased a TS 55, I haven't got up the money for a Dust extractor yet. So I have been looking for a good way to hook up my TS 55 to my Shop vac which has an 1 1/4" hose. I purchased a replacement tool end for a Festool 27 mm extraction hose. After the guy at the Woodcraft store told me that it would adapt my 1 1/4" hose end to the saws dust port. But it doesn't fit too well on my hose end, usually falling off in the middle of a cut. Shure I could just pull out the duct tape and tape the hose to the it but I would rather not. So does any body have a good idea to get me by until I can get a dust extractor?

I used my TS55 for probably a year with my shop vac before getting a Festool dust extractor.  I believe I just cut the end of the shop vac hose as it was tapered and then it fit nicely into the TS55.

When I actually got my Festool dust extractor, I found that it didn't fit into my sander or miter saw (both Dewalt).  I got a few of the Fein step adapters and that solved that issue.  I would guess these would also work for you as well and that way you would only have to cut the adapter and not your shop vac hose.

I also got one of these so that the vacuum would come on automatically whenever the tool that you had plugged in was powered up.

You might want to also look into getting a Hepa filter for your Shop Vac...that was $40 well spent as the stock filter just spewed sawdust everywhere.

Cool thanks I will look in to getting the adapter, I would cut the hose end off to fit it but I still would like to use my shop vac accessories. I did put a hepa filter along with the dust collection bags on the vac so atleast it dosent blow dust every where.

Bosch VAC005 hose works perfectly for me.  The attachment end and hose look the exact same as the Festool non-antistatic that a co-worker has. Only $35 on Amazon.

Another alternative that provides a very secure connection is to use "no-hub" rubber plumbing fittings.  They are available in a variety of sizes, including reducers.  You just slip them over your fittings on the hose and saw, tighten a hose clamp and they constrict to make a water-tight (and air-tight) seal.  If you tighten them heavily, they will not fall off.  If you leave them slightly loose, you can "friction-fit" them where you will not need a screwdriver everytime you change tools on the hose.

wonder wino . could you post a pic of thos fittings or a link. im not sure what they are and what we over here have thats similar.

I purchased a festool hose ( the non static one because it was cheap ) and it fit perfectly into my rigid shop vac and the ts55. I used that for a couple of years till I purchased a ct22.

Okay, I'm seeing that the answer is a bit more than...  What about a hose?  [eek]

Really this seemed like a trick question when I first  read it.  [big grin]

Cheers,
Steve

Well you guys had a lot of great answers to my question, I Started messing with my hose and Festool fitting to see if I could make it work, and I think I did. First I cut off a 1/4" off of the end of the hose.

Then I attached the swivel part of the Festool hose end to the end of the Shopvac hose with a good bit of CA glue

Then I reassembled the Festool hose end.

Then I attached the hose to the end in the factory location

While that would have worked just fine I pushed the hose up a bit to make it flush with the back of the Festool hose end.

I think it looks pretty good. Just a Pic of the saw with the hose assembly hooked up

So once again thanks guys for all of your great answers, all of them were good but I just decided to work with what I had. The only down side is that my Shop vac accessories do not fit any more, but hey that's an excuse for a Festool cleaning set.  ;D

SCABROWN -

If you buy an I-VAC Switch, you can auto-control your vac when you turn on the tool plus it keeps running for six seconds after your saw stops to clear the hose.  I have one and it works great!

All you need is the standard one.  They sell them at Woodcraft and Rockler as well as online.

Can't you just use a Festool hose with your shop vac?

Most of them apparently have the same standard 2.5" vaccum end connection that Festool uses, so you can just swap the hose out...

deepcreek, thanks for the tip I ordered an I-vac switch today.
fdengel, you probably could. I got the Festool hose end on account of bad info from the salesman at the Woodcraft store where I bought my saw at, so I decided to just make it work.

I purchased a shop vac brand hose at lowes.  It fits over the TS55 dust port.  It worked well enough.  I believe that I had to play with one end of the hose to get it to fit my Craftsman 16Gal - 25year old vacuum.
