Anyone Use the MFT systainer yet?

Really curious about this, Many times i need to mod brackets, adjust racks and rails and 99% of the time it is metal. I dont have any qualms about the clamps holding the piece down but im worried about the actual systainer wondering around, especially using a hacksaw or reciprocating saw. Since the actual systainer has to be relatively open to be able to drop the quick clamps down etc.

How do you guys keep the systainer from wondering around when your working on something?

I guess if i put some of my heavier systainers on my syscart and locked the wheels it would keep it still but if i do that it leaves my "work" area pretty limited due to the rear rails of the syscart.

Any ideas?

I haven't used mine yet but I foresee that it will be ideal when locked to the top of a CT, which I would usually have in the room with me anyways. Maybe sticking a non slip mat on the floor to set the sys-MFT on would help.

Didnt think about the CT-Vacs. I wonder if on my CT-midi the little clips would be strong enough to hold the systainer down if i really was taking the hack saw to my piece. The CT-26-48 have a much better systainer mounting system..

Im going to go ahead and order one  [big grin] if all else fails im sure those rubber mats would work really well too!

I did use mine yesterday while it was resting on pavement. While using a power planer resting on the non skid strip I had no movement of the mft sys or the piece of wood. I can foresee this thing being very handy for small jobs. [big grin]

I got mine to use with my kreg jig. Great for clamping the pieces to it for assemble and clamping the jig to to drill the holes etc...

Just got some kaizen foam so I can pimp it rock star style  [thumbs up]

edited to add, I got a small shelf / display unit to build.

Im going to see how the domino will work with it, clamping narrow 203mm ( 8") wide pieces. That will be happening shortly.

I was going to use mine for the first time today and discovered that the case has cracked around the hinge lug and the pin that connects the top tho the bottom has fallen out. It will be going back to the dealers on Saturday.

been using anti slip mats for this sort of thing for a long time, usually works extremely well and they roll up and store away easily when done.
the cheapo ones i have now are k-mart shelf liners and are a sort of mesh rather than a solid sheet. the mesh sometimes leaves a very faint oily pattern on the surface you use it on, esp when the mats are new, this can be a problem sometimes but diminishes as the mats eventually get dusty...

I was using mine on a router mat on my workbench to sand 2" dowel rods with the 130 sander.  The v groove worked great and I wasn't chasing it around while sanding
Glad I got.  My main use will be on top of the vacuum.

Mine arrived yesterday.  I suspect I'll put a rolled-up non-skid router pad in it along with some clamps for on-site work.  Then again, I may switch lids with the Sys5 that I use for cleaning supplies and put the non-skid pad and clamps in the SysRoll's drawer.  TBD...

used mine last night,I think its going to be pretty hard to put 50 kilos on that little space.going to put the lid on a 2 or 3, one is kinda short,with stuff inside.one more thing that might not be obvious,you can't open it up with something on top,unless its really small

I use mine all the time.  I moved the lid off of the SYS-1 it comes on and on to a SYS-4 that I use for hand tools.  This way, If I just need hand tools for the job, I have a small work surface if I need it. 

As far as wandering goes, if you clip it to the top of a (moderately heavy) stack so it's at working height, it's pretty stable for sawing.  I have a small plastic miter box I clamp to the top for doing small jobs.  (I'm not going to haul a Kapex or any other chop saw around to install a few pieces of shoe molding!)  I use a hand saw with that miter box on a table-height stack of my air compressor in a SYS-4, my Makita drills/charger/batteries in a SYS-3 and a couple of SYS-1's full of hardware.  Works great for me!

I lover my Sys MFT -- I currently have it on my regular work bench and it is nice for clamping when I do not want to break out an MFT/3.  One of the best new things from Festool in a long time IMHO...
