Apple I Pad

If you need a video tutorial on it, go to cnet.com, click over to the cnet tv link, and do a search for "tethering."  You will find a video that walks you through it, so you can see what you will be doing before you do it.

BTW, Shane, this is not the same as the link that you found.  It's a different program.

I Pad or Domino ...
I Pad or MFT/3 ...
The choice to me is rather simple...
I have a portable PC -> it can do a lot more than an I Pad
and I don't see anything coming close to a Domino ...

I am a big time apple fan I have two mac books an iMac a Mac mini a 24 inch led display and a Xserve so ihave almost every product apple sells saturday afternoon I picked up an ipad for my wife for her birthday well after finding an invoicing app officially today my Mac book will no longer travel with me daily I invoice my customers on site and the iPad made it a lot smaller and easier for me. For me it is another tool time is money and tools as we all know make money. For personal use I think it's a nice toy but that's it. For me a lost stolden or broken iPad is a third of the price of my Mac book.

James,

Please take this the right way.  I love you man!  Thanks for the help.

Peter

Get a Droid... It's available via Verizon which has much better service in most places than at&t and can be tethered at no additional cost.  Plus with a droid you can actually have a decent conversation with someone where it's kinda challenging on the iphone.

I'm still a little ticked that AT&T doesn't allow/enable Internet tethering on the iPhone.  Great feature but I'm not sure why they block it.  It allows you to plug your iPhone into a PC/Notebook and use it for Internet connectivity.  The option doesn't even appear on the menus even though it's talked about on the Apple website.  That's just poop.

Anyway, I guess I might wait for the iMat.

Is the I Pad a fully functioning pc ?

Yes and no.  As it ships, it has a stripped down OS and stripped down browsing abilities (no Flash!).  If you want to jailbreak it and run a full version of OS X on it, you can just fine.

How about a Festool app?  They could make a domino cutter that connects to the usb port (if there is one) and you could just type in the dimensions you need.... [wink]

USB?  Nah.  Just add Bluetooth to the Domino and go wireless.  Better yet, add WiFi.  [eek]

Boy was I tempted yesterday.  On the way to Woocraft to buy CT-22 bags just happened to stop by the Apple store.  In my opinion, what a neat piece of hardware.  The FOG looks good on it too!  So does Festool TV!

Shane - of course I didn't login.  [poke]

Lucky for me they didn't have any in stock.  Neither did BestBuy.

Patience Peter, patience.

To go from off to working in less than 30 seconds is quite appealing.  Additionally I can see with the wifi model the ability for a travelling contractor to do an invoice while in the clients home using a saved spreadsheet document, showing the invoice to the customer on screen, saving it to a pdf, collecting payment and sending a copy to the customer's email with a copy to the contractors email for integration into the records back at the office.  Of course there are also credit card applications for the iphone that I am sure are already available for the iPad.  I can see a contractor carrying around a portfolio of images of past work, etc.

For those who don't like the fact that the iPad doesn't have a camera, if you have an iPhone you can connect thru an app and bluetooth and have your image appear on the iPad.  Not a perfect  situation, but at least a work around.

So you just happened to end up at an Apple store....so explain how you got to BestBuy too. [poke] [tongue]

Well,  when the Apple store didn't have it, I checked BestBuy because in some markets the BestBuys had inventory when the Apple stores didn't.  All in all my trip to stimulate the economy  [scared] turned out to be a bust.  Woodcraft didn't have the Earlex sprayer I've been eyeing.  Nor the extension tables for my DeWalt thickness planer.  Their selection of paduak wasn't what I wanted.

Oh well.  The iPad would have become my wife's anyway when the 3G models come out.  She did agree to go to the Apple store next weekend!  Seven days to convince and cajol.  [big grin]

Hey, Peter... save yourself some money upgrade your iPhone to an iPad for less than $10.  [poke]

Shane, Shane, Shane.

Did my wife put you up to this?  The Apple store beckons Saturday with my wife.  She has grown tired of hearing about the Kapex.  The iPad is less painful.

Peter

The standard ones are sold out and demand is so high that the stores can't get inventory to sell.  All pre-reserved.  I knew that what I wanted was not available yet.  :'(

A 32 gb wi-fi plus 3G has been ordered along with a case and a camera adaptor.  You won't believe this but the deciding factor was her seeing the FOG on the iPad versus the iPhone.  [big grin]
