Are Festool power tools as tough as we claim?

What was the alarm sound telling him?  Low battery?  Or a warning that Darwin is going to thin the heard? [big grin]

Cheers,
Steve

So Shane, you searching out all the Taco Bell stores in Ohio for this guy so you can remove him from the warranty program?

We'll have to wait and see what effect the cake mix has on his T15 down the road.  I didn't see a microwave test in this video.  [tongue]

Now I know I can bring the battery powered Carvex into the shower with me to cut some 4x before I shampoo.

why taco bell stores?

Steve, the beeps indicated a problem with communications from the battery. Some of the crud he tossed the drill in contaminated the contacts of the battery. Once he blew it off, it was fine.

Haha, this has amused me...I wouldn't lend him a tool but I bet he's good fun to have a few beers with!

i would love to see that test done with a time allowed for the stuff to set a bit or soak in a bit. if it was left in it for a minute or so to really let it get in there

Well to be fair water had plenty of time to get in as he had dipped it in water plenty of times and turned it so it would of got in pretty much every where  it could!

So I think it was a pretty fair test!  Cus if you was to drop your drill in a bucket by accident thats pretty much the same amount of water time it would get in the video this random guy did cus I dont know about you but if my drill dropped into a bucket I would dive like super man to try and get it out as soon as possible.

What I am curious about is to see if this guy comes back with another video on youtube to see if the drill still works cus all that water inside will properly start to make things go a little rusty and that could stop the drill from working no?

abou the duration of the test , the water test was ok for a normal dunk but after a months of dusty sites a layer of crap would have built up. i meant that if some ejit left it in water for a good lenth all that crap would absorbe some water. this might clog up the inside of the drill.

as for my tools . i would never let my tools get wet , never. no body ever borrows them  [wink]. i would never leave my tools lying around , they get put away safe when i am finished using them

He was a cack handed git trying to drive those screws, does he actually know how to use these tools in his work ??

lol I thought the same thing!

He seems very clumsy and unprofessional trying to screw them screws in.    He said the screw was flush and you could clearly see it was sticking out 20mm  he then goes and feels it and drives it in flush comedy!

Ditto, this guy is a tool!!!!!!!!!!

I bet that drill isnt going to last, Dry wall dust plus dampness equals a lot of rust!
I think it is silly to think that getting dust on it would cause it to stop working. A much better test is the one Festool does where the drill is in the sand storm type environment for a long period of time, I think it is on one of the Festool video's but I can't really remember.

I've never seen a video of the drill in the dust chamber, but I have a photo.

There's a video of the RO 90 in the dust chamber.

Festool - Built for the toughest demands!

Ken,

I really don't want to know or see what you use the Carvex or anything else with batteries or cords for in the shower.  [scared]

Dean, he used references to tacos and the amount of meat in them compared with the picture to tools, in the beginning of the video.

Peter, I'm a dedicated woodworker looking to maximize my time.  That's the best answer I can possibly come back with.  [tongue]

LOL  What a craftsman!    Looks like he has experience battering fish or chicken!  If he left that battery in the water too long he would have hot water indeed (unless festool has a short circuit fuse or something in their batteries)

Idiots are fun to watch....

Gents, let's be careful not to be too harsh in publicly criticizing the guy. The reason I shared the video was not to have you critique his technique or expertise, but to show the durability of the drill. Let's keep it nice, which is one of our forum guidelines. If you think poorly of him, keep your thoughts private. Thanks.

Edit: Any additional posts with negative comments about the guy in the video will be removed.

it's a good promotional stunt, but does it really prove much? would have been nice to see another brand undergo the same torture. i'm not certain that such a short but intense abuse would insta-kill (m)any other brand drills.

i can abuse my car for 4 minutes aswell, it doesn't mean that if it doesn't fail during the abuse that there is no damage or concequences.
i will be impressed in 20 years when this guy makes a new video showing that same drill still functioning!

Get real. Not being funny 20years is a little extreme dude.

You could say if it lasts it warranty so 3years with the same abuse he's giving in the video then that's amazing but that's expecting to much it's just really showing it can with stand abuse as festool is thought of being not durable enough.  I'm pretty sure you put a other brand in water a few times drilled a few screws and put it in water again it will stop working
