I have some Mountain Ash solid edging on ply. I have a trimming router bit and a QF1400 but no edging plate etc.,.

Interested in safe techniques/ideas available only with these resources.

Thanks.

Bolt a block of wood to 1/2 of the baseplate→cover only 1/2 of the bit→set router on flat surface→plunge through block until bit just kisses surface→this should give you a zero clearance hand held milling machine.

Like this, but you need to install a block to achieve the offset base.

Or a bearing guided flush trim bit.

Couple of photos of the vertical offset base on a Porter Cable router.
