I'm toying with the idea of buying a used one.  I'm not really in the need for one just can't pass on a good offer.  I'd like to try a hand at using one for cutting male sliding dovetails like on Jerry Work's website.  Was just wondering if there are any out there who have regrets about theirs.  Comments good and bad please.

While I don't yet have a 700 it is next on my list of Festool tools to acquire along with the shelf pin drilling set and perhaps the router guide rail sets MFS.  With a little luck I may get one in the next week or two. After looking at the 700 and playing around with it a bit at the local Woodcraft I have high expectations for it.  I like the variable speed, ease of changing bases and real fine adjustability with dust collection.  This is in comparison to the PC outfit and a couple other laminate trimmers I have today.  I see it as being powerful enough for many dado, grooving and rabbeting tasks and stable enough for many edge routing tasks too.  I also think it will work well with my dovetail jigs without being a handful to balance on the jigs. Bottom line is I think it will be a most versatile router package.  So, I guess I would say to go for it.

Best,
Todd

I bought the MFK700 primarily to trim solid edge banding (1/4") for frameless cabinet boxes but I found that trimming with the 1.5* base left a visible gap between butted joints.  I had to buy a 0* base which works well for that application but it's a bunch of $ when you calculate in everything.  Another shortcoming is that it won't trim more than ~5/8" deep edging.

Other than that it's pretty trick.  ;D

I bought one under similar circumstances.  I have only used it to plough grooves (with the edge guide) in stiles for a rail & panel bar I am building.  It worked great on the through cuts, but I found it difficult to contol when dropping it into stopped groves, so I turned to the 1010 plunge router, which is more suited to the job.  The 700 is going to be my choice for edge treatments as it is light and easy to handle.  By the way, chip collection was about 99% through the base!
